sounds like you have to KEEP crackdown to play the halo 3 beta

"Once the beta is installed onto your Xbox, you can launch it via Crackdown itself (yes, this means that the Crackdown game disc has to be in your console before you can play the Halo 3 beta)."

from the new bungie update.

fuck. i was thinking i could just download it and then sell crackdown. but i suppose a LOT of people were thinking that, and it's been set up this way to prevent a flood of used crackdown circa march. microsoft can get fucked. i don't need to play the beta that badly.

I dunno why microsoft would care. I cant think of a store that takes back a game after its been opened without a lot of whining, and once its traded in they dont make profit at the next sale anyway.

Nevermind, I just made the logical jump, they would sell fewer new copies with used copies in stores.

duh ;)

Eh, the beta is only going to be for a limited time, so you could always sell off the game once it's over.

It's the two birds with one stone deal. MS is pushing Crackdown as a GTA killer in order to secure that market early on - before the PS3 has a chance to. Everyone knows 360 owners want Halo 3. So by mixing them MS is really ensuring Crackdown's success

Most reviews are pretty positive too, so I don't see why the few haters out there are sooo vocal lol

GTA killed itself by cloning itself with generic 'stories' and shitty mechanics.

Totally. GTA3 was amazing, but sequels released yearly, the the PSP port PS2 re-port debacle really nailed the coffin for me.

Vice City and San Andreas both had amzingly compiled, great soundtracks and the best voice talent the planet has to offer (Ray Liotta is my favourite actor) but the gameplay hasnt evolved ONE BIT and is still wooden and ropey as fuck compared to every other popular action title in this day and age

well based on my impressions with some press copy of the game, it's a pretty damn fun title that is worth purchasing, maybe not at full price but if you're longing for some good old mindless, black and white shooting fun like so many games offered to you in the mid-nineties you'll like it-- it doesn't take itself seriously and feels closer to how the first two GTAs played, compared to the 3D sequels where Rockstar really brought a cinematic spin to the series

the city in which you play is huge, and it's fun to power up the game every now and then to simply jump around and try to reach various ability orbs that augment your athletic faculties, or discover new hidden criminal bases to attack

your various abilities (shooting, physical, athetics and the like) improve when you play the game like they do in an RPG, and it's a good system since it prevents the repetitive missions from getting stale

there are a few negatives though, the game is pretty short, the narrator that constantly gives you redundant advice is lame and his voice his totally off, the character designs are awful, one of the city's gang (Los Muertos) has its members constantly screaming and laughing like distinguished mentally-challenged fellows and it's pretty damn irritating, the combat is fast and frantic but sometimes the auto-aiming feature accidentaly targets enemy corpses, and the boss fights are lame and without any surprises

still worth playing, I recommend it

the demo is a pretty good example of how the full game plays like

Is that going to work?  The rental places either might not get the copies of the game with the beta key, or the key is going to only work on the first 360 it gets played on, I would think...

i didn't know it. and the demo pretty much blows. seems like a bad gta clone for all its superjumping and car-tossing. the art direction is horrible, the hud is horrible, the music is horrible, the platforming is horrible, the gunplay is horrible, the missions are horrible.

bobobo halo 3 beta :(

apparently the beta's going to hit in april or may. maybe i'll buy a used copy of crackdown then. seems like they're requiring you to have the disc rather than instituting any kind of drm, so i suspect that'd work.

I don't think it's worth paying $60 to play a beta.  If you don't have enough interest in Crackdown, don't bother.
Watch Microsoft keep the beta exclusive for a month and then make it open for everyone.  Just watch.

I just got finished playing the Crackdown demo for the first time, really.  Only messed with it briefly before.  I like it, mainly because of the abilities like jumping HIGH and hurling various objects.  I can see the appeal now...it's got a lot more fun play mechanics to it than GTA ever had, quite frankly, but the downside is that the missions seem to suck.

it's not that the beta is worth $60. not having to see people playing the beta on my friends list while i hold my dick is worth $60. maybe.

I'd say if it's really that big a deal, buy Crackdown and sell the game back, I'm sure by the time November rolls around you'll be able to get $20-30 for the game on trade in or through ebay. How come you didn't do the three hours in three days promotion?
