Anyone playing Red Orchestra?

I was thinking about picking it up.  The attempt at realistic battlefield conditions sounds interesting.  Impressions, anyone?

My FPS community plays it. www.puckerfactor.net

It's kind of slow, with a steep (!!) learning curve. But, it is very satisfying once you learn how to adjust for bullet drop and start picking guys off with your rifle.

The graphics are kind of assy too (especially for a Source game). But, once you get into a game, graphics don't matter.

I'm a DoD guy .. so I need that twitchy, run and gun play. But I can see why people are devoted to it.

Did you get to play it during the free week it just had on Steam?

No, I didn't have my new computer at that time.  Now that I do, I want to catch up on all the stuff I wasn't able to run these past couple of years.

Do you play COD2 on PC, Adam?  How's the map and mod community on that one?  I already own it on 360, so the single player is a wash - but BB has it for $29.99 this week, and if the community is still strong, it might be worth it for the MP.  COD and COD: United Offensive were some of the best times I ever had PC gaming.  Some of the user-created maps were leagues better than the included maps.

No, I don't own CoD2 yet. I am waiting for it to hit the bargain bins.

I purchased COD (at launch) and was really disappointed in the multiplay. It wasn't until UO was released that I got any value out of it.

Alot of the early reviews said the CoD2 plays alot like COD (SP and MP) ... so I stayed away. I'm not a huge fan of CoD's scripted battles. I get bored of being led by my nose to each "hot spot".

Activision really screwed over their mod community. They failed to help them in any way .. and the release of UO pissed alot of them off. A great mod for the original COD (Heat of Battle) moved on over to Source because of all that. So, I'm not sure who stayed around for CoD2.

I played it way back in the day. It's pure ass unless you're a grizzled 70-year-old war vet that likes dying when you fall off a 5 inch cliff and playing the slowest pace ever made.

Widescreen support is something that should probably be mentioned on game boxes from now on.  800x600 is the max for RO, WTF.  How old is this game?  On the box it says 2006, but it sure doesn't look it.

Meh, overall.  CC had it for $20, so I didn't lose out on much.  I personally like the slower-paced gameplay, but it looks like shit even with all effects turned on, and that's hard to get over.  Maybe it will grow on me.  800x600, WTF indeed.

I already own it on the 360.  It's a lot of fun.  Is there that much of a difference to warrant a second purchase on PC?

PC version is a completely different animal. Not to mention a better looking game that supports more players and has more maps
