Technically it's not a "movie"; Sybil was a television movie, but in terms of quality it might as well be a movie.
I've always been a fan of intense, thrilling dramas. Sybil really accomplishes this by mixing thrilling drama with truly disturbing themes, as well as some horror movie-eqsue instances. The movie tells the story of Sybil, an extremely disturbed woman who's tortuous childhood causes her to split into 13 distint mental personalities. Each personality offers insight into the hell her childhood was. With the help of a psychiatrist, Sybil tries to fight her inner demons and free her true personality.

On the left is Marcia, one of Sybil's thirteen personalities; Marcia is suicidal and hopes to free herself from her menal prison by killing herself (and Sybil in the process)
Multiple personaly disorders are usually caused by extreme childhood trauma, and through flashbacks the movie shows how Sybil degenerated to that state. Her mother was an extremist fundementalist Christian, and her own illness caused her to torture her daughter into madness. Sybil's deepest pain is traced to one main instance of torture, and once the movie finally reveals what happened to her it's almost too disturbing to think about. Even as a guy I squirmed in my chair at the sheer thought of what her monster of a mother did to her.
Since this is a television movie, it's pretty long. But overall this is a great movie. Sally Field is a very good actress, and her preformance her is steller.
