Evangelion Platinum Collection - Well Worth the Money
« on: February 24, 2007, 09:52:09 PM »
The remastering is a little iffy at times, but the inclusion of the director cut and non-dir cut episodes is such a great deal. The dir cut eps build up to the End of Evangelion movie. The non-dir cut episodes lead to the infamouse eps 25&26.

Having these collection and the death&rebirth/end of evangelion pack is really the ultimate way to own the series.

That being said its only like 57 bux at best buy which is cheap all things considered.

Man, you used to pay like 30 bucks a pop for a VHS tape with 2 episodes on it, and now you can get the whole thing on DVD for the price of 2 tapes.

Yeah as much as ill mock Sailor Moon, DBZ, and Pokemon, they are responsible for affordable collections.

The rub is that there isn't much ill BUY as a collection anymore, just the stuff I REALLY like, like Eva, Slayers, Tylor.

Im still lamenting that shitty fanservice boxset packaging of excel saga, I could never buy it let alone own it. Wtf.

I have the Eva Platinum Collection, too, and I love it. Glad you like it, too!  :-*

Its a really great series. You can watch it 8 times over and it still seems pretty fresh. Plus EoE owns.

I don't like Jappa shit. For some reason buying an entire series at once compels me. Like the Buffy collection, and I hate all the Buffy eps I saw on TV. :-\

What do you mean by "the remastering is sometimes iffy"?  I thought it was supposed to be great across the board (haven't seen it myself).

Animation companies still sell season discs separately for 30 bucks each, though.  distinguished mentally-challenged.  It's why I no longer watch anime unless there's a huge sale on box sets at DeepDiscount or Right Stuf or ADV or something.

Ichi: I dunno, im watching in upscaled tho so maybe thats creating the effect, but lines dont look as neat and sometimes the coloring looks 'unnatural' which is silly cause its an animation anyway.

I mostly noticed in the first episodes, maybe I just got used to it.

I WANTED to get the ultimate edition of Tylor TV but they wouldnt ship to a different address than my billing and Frys only had the OVA set (which I picked up) but I did find the first release dvds fo the show for cheap at CD Warehouse so I just got it all there. :-D

I just wait for box sets to be on sale...I'm not paying more than fifty bucks for a 26 episode series.  But I won't pirate either, so that means I'm usually a few years behind on current animation.

OVA is great except for the fact that it leads into an arc that never happened lol. Or maybe it never was supposed to happen. I just never wanted the series to stop :(

I also own the 13 episodes of Tsukikage Ran, another show I wish went on, it was a lot of fun. Really the only other series ill buy on dvd at this point is a Slayers re-release but who knows when that will happen :-(

I remember reading about Tylor, it was supposed to lead into another arc but they ran out of money or something.  The series was based on some novels so I believe the box set actually has a summary of the events tha happened after the OAVs...I'd like to own Tylor someday if I could find the TV and OAV stuff for cheap enough.

I watched Tsukikage Ran, it was fun stuff.  Reminded me of a lot of episodic Japanese historical dramas.  Really entertaining stand-alone episodes.

Ichirou: Right Stuf has the Ultimate TV and OVA sets for REAL cheap compared to what they go for in retail, they are VERY high quality and packed with extras. I dunno how cheap you were thinking tho.

Isn't it only 13 or so eps?

Could be a better deal out there. Hmm.

look for a better deal, but the two tylor box sets put out by TRS right now are sooo fucking nice. They even top the wonderful El Hazard Magnificent World release some years back. The detail in THAT package was nuts. The Tylor sets win with the amount of content and the art on the boxes and sleeves.

I'm still waiting for TRS to send me the Genshiken and Votoms box sets I ordered during their sale on December...they keep telling me they're on backorder...it's been over two months now!

The only reason I haven't cancelled my order is 'cause it's cheaper than anyplace else.

Well, I hope I'll have the chance to verify it's amazingness for myself someday, if Right Stuf ever gets its act together and sends me my copy.
