Mice
« on: February 26, 2007, 08:46:24 PM »
The mice in my house are becoming a bit too bold. One of them just walked into my room, right in front of me and started cruising around. I've tried these blue blocks of poison, but they don't seem to take to them, so I've bought some traps. Any tips as far as bait is concerned or has anyone else here had this problem and figured out a good way to solve it?

catch one and make an example of it.  A harsh example and they will never leave the rodent ghetto again.

Tip fill any holes leading to the outside of your house with steal wool.  remember these crafty buggers can go though a hole the size of your fingure tip.

Thanks for the tips. I guess the "hole the size of your finger tip" thing means I'm not safe even with my bedroom door closed. :(

As for making an example of one, definitely. I'm going to leave one out not just as a message to the mice but to my flatmates for leaving so many food scraps around (something which I'm admittedly guilty of too).

I just tested one of the traps and BOOM. I'm pleased I found a stick to set it off with rather than just using my finger.

We just caught a mouse, yesterday in fact, by putting peanut butter on the traps.  Apparently, they really love it and it's easier for them to sense.

That's right, I knew there was something that was especially effective but I couldn't remember what exactly it was. I've just set the traps with cheese, but if I don't hear a couple of loud snaps within in the next hour or so, it's time to break out the PB.

Yeah, I did the peanut butter thing. The steel wool trick is also a good one.

Mice fucking suck.

This might not be what you want to hear, but I don't recall ever having completely gotten rid of them. I think I moved out. Telling your housemates to pick up their game is a pretty good move though.

Yeah they were here when we moved in most of the blame can be attributed. I guess mice are the least of your worries when you're facing eviction.

As for never getting rid of them, I'm hoping there's only a couple, but that's probably a bit naive of me.

Just peanut buttered up the traps.

I thought we only had a few, but it turned out to be a whole fucking bunch of them living in a Weetbix box.

That was an unpleasant find.

Yeah, it was one of those big boxes, and you know how it is with Weetbix - someone buys them, and eats them for about a week, then promptly forgets about them for another three months. I didn't find them, but apparently my housemates saw one go in there, and opened the lid to check what was going on, only to find a whole fucking family of the things in there.
