The only thing that really bugs me with them is the general schadenfreude they seem to crow when a developer closes up shop or has to make drastic job cuts to survive.  "If they only made games on Wii, they'd be making record profits instead!"

That and two of the leading Nintards, PantherLotus and JoshuaJSlone, are just freaks.  Especially the latter because I'm sure we all seen his wiki where it linked to pictures of Drinky Crow's daughter.  I don't know if they are as bad as kittonwy or dfyb but they are pretty close.

Well there's the notion that adding MP just because some suit said so, takes away resources from the SP.

In that sense, i understand why people act negative about it. To me, well, i say watch that latest Gametrailers T.V show, and there's this 2K producer saying what he thinks, certain games don't need MP, Mafia 2 doesn't have MP etc

He also says something i've been saying forever, we are reaching a point, where certain genres are starting to all play the same, and the graphics are all at the same level of quality, and developers need to start concentrating on story, because that's what differentiates certain kinds of games.

The ironic thing is that it's making me look like the "Naughty Dog can do no wrong" dude. I don't believe that at all, but these people seem to have real twisted concepts of how far and how much a product can be improved by way of throwing time and resources at it. Some games are absolutely the victims of poor management and could have probably been improved with a stronger focus and more resources directed to one component, but that's not universally true for all products.

And the half-empty glass mindset is just weird, at least if you were to believe them when they talk about their admiration for Naughty Dog.

I don't think the partner system is a total failure at all. It doesn't always work perfectly, but then that's true for any game that features any sort of critical team mechanics. I think they did a surprisingly good job at implementing a partner that didn't feel blatantly artificial.

Thing is, Resistance 1 already had a hefty multiplayer.  It was also a PS3 launch title.  And things like the removal of the weapon wheel, shitty locales (in America!), shitty bosses and chameleons are there not because they were cutting corners, but because they were terrible design decisions made at the beginning of the development cycle.

Resistance 2 was Insomniac's third game on PS3 (fourth if you count Q4B, which I don't).  They have no excuse.  Extra development time would only benefit things like enemy balance, graphics, bug squashing, etc.  If R2 had another six months, it'd still be a shitty game, albeit a more polished one.

Luckily, it seems like Insomniac's attitude now (going from ListenUP and forum posts) is "yeah, we fucked up" and not "this game is great, you're misunderstanding it!"  Hopefully R3 will be a return to form.
