Despite sometimes seeming negative about Halo 3, I can totally agree that it deserves a 10/10 score for any review site -- GTA4 getting scores above the ~8.5 range is a fucking joke.

Also MGS4 got a 10/10 from IGN which it doesn't deserve (this is coming from someone who considers it one of his favorite games)

Whatever trust I had in EG was thrown out the window when I caught them talking out of their asses about a game I'm very familiar with. Edge, I'm not sure about. I don't get the criteria upon which they praise or rip on games, but at least their writers seem half-some competent, which is more than can be said for most US sources.

And Halo 3 does by no means deserve a 10, for anything.

Well, the wife, who is most certainly anything but hardcore about gaming (she sort of likes the odd Mario game, but despises most other games I've owned) was talking about this "Little Planet" game the other day. I guess she heard about it somewhere. Now, not saying that this is a sign of market reception, but it pretty clearly has some mainstream appeal. It remains to be seen whether they can actually harness that with good marketing, but it's there.

For the record, I don't think it will be an instant hit.

LBP will sell a few hundred thousand overall in the US, a little over a million worldwide.

Doesn't mean it sucks but it is the wrong market. Internet hype doesn't mean shit, especially if it is a non PC game. GAF members may instantly sport wood when that acronym is stated but that translates to only a couple thousand sales..max. Not to mention the rollover of members onto other forums and the internet factor may amount to little more than a near double digit percentage of potential sales. Assuming they buy it right away or at all. You got to discount the fact that some people love to hype it up but neither own a PS3 or will ever bother to buy LBP. That and you got to account for the Metalmurphys out there that are so overbearing that it gives a false impression of how the internet community truly feels.

I haven't bothered with any of the LBP threads. I got the beta (thanks again, Costanza!) and played it a couple of times. Nothing special, not too keen on the jumping physics, not particularly fond of the blurriness that occurs when you move, and the Sackboy design really isn't a favorite of mine. But I can see its potential. Millions-seller? Maybe, I don't know. I am not even sure if I am going to buy this or not. It seems like it would be more fun making levels than actually playing them. There are too many other games coming out anyway.

No. I don't recall the reveal much and the audiences here are different.

For the reveal, it was mostly Sony fans who were starving for anything to get sales above the 360. As the PS3's situation continues to get bleaker and bleaker, the hopes and expectation for LBP are rising and rising. I'd hate to break it to you but it seems like a neat title but it won't be a savior and it won't be the household non-game that Sony fans are hoping it to be. The target audiences between that and say Wii Sports are different. Especially now that the economy is swirling down the drain, or enough to make consumers think twice before buying $400 electronic equipment, people won't be buying it in droves. The potential base just isn't there. I saw some people making predictions of Super Mario 64 sales. Not going to happen. Ever.

The base here are Sony fans that like that kind of stuff (not too many) combined with those that will buy it because it is a major first party title. That will translate to maybe 1.5 million copies overall at the very most, which a good portion will be accumulated throughout the months. Call this "legs" or whatever but this is Uncharted all over again.

It's called hand holding!!!!!!! It's making you believe you are doing something you are not. To make you believe you are actually adding something to it when you are not. You can make meaningful 'improv' on a real instrument, not by waggling wildly about.
