Actually I like minimal and techno, a bit... but generally prefer atmospherics and melody in the music I listen to.

But I don't get the argument that prog isn't 'artistically demanding'. Plenty of prog (and trance) artists are classically trained in music. A lot of times your typical loopy techno is just simplistic and primal, seems more like anybody with a copy of Ableton and some slight knowledge how to use it can make a competent song in the genre. Like, look at Beatport and the flood of samey-sounding minimal it has on it. The name prog more-so refers to the progression, build-ups and etc in the song, at least that's the way I see it. Its just easier to classify the atmospheric, melodic stuff that's not fast enough to be trance, not funky enough to be house, i.e. the stuff Sasha/Digweed/Cattaneo/etc play as 'prog' since that's what everyone else does.

Never got into IDM for some reason... not only that I think it's a silly term for the genre of music ("Intelligent" dance music? WTF?). I like my music more 'orderly' for lack of a better term. I could go for hours on end listening to straight 4x4, I don't really care.
