I didn't think the impressions were so much negative as they were unfamiliar with it and disliked it because of it.  The only really dumb thing to be said was that no one would get into it because the controls were different.  It's like they completely forget that 2 years ago Gears came out with very different controls and people adapted to it.  Maybe it's because KZ2 is in the first person perspective and he had a hard time adapting, but I still don't think it's a valid criticism.

Oh, and them saying the the devs already said that they wouldn't change the controls has me a bit worried.  I mean, sometimes I do like it when developers don't listen to fans, but this is a case where a lot of people seem to have issues.  At the bare minimum they should add a 180 turn.

Yeah. Whenever I hear about people converting to other religions I see it as defeating the purpose of religion. If they can dismiss the religion you once followed as false, what makes them think this one is correct? Like they're someone who can decipher what the true religion really is. Rather silly to me.

I don't disagree at all with that the response from the fanboys is wildly exaggerated, particularly when it comes from dudes who haven't actually played it but can totally tell what it's like by just looking at the videos, but I think Ellis' response to the game is more troubling than that, especially given his supposed uber-FPS player status that the fanboys of the other sort have awarded him. Asking for change when something is genuinely broken is one thing (and there are such things in the beta), but bitching about it squarely because it's different from the auto-aim, auto-win stuff that they are apparently used to, that's weak, especially coming from one of them critic types. Do they want something new or not? It's not COD: Helghan, it's Killzone 2.

Sony fans are just bitter and generally hateful towards anyone who does not worship the PlayStation 3.  The Defense Force is just the typical response from the Sony hive.  Poke it with a stick and you get these insane responses.  Every slight against the PS3 is bound to get you a shitload of hate from either Kittonwy, Jax, Metalmurphy, Kagari, or Private Hoffman.  It's like they all keep hitting F5 on all the recent Sony topics, waiting for the moment when someone dare speak against the PS3.

I think that the Sony fan and Xbox fan are really the same, they just adapt for what the situation throws at them.  Back when there was the false rumor that Mirror's Edge was a timed PS3 exclusive you had a bunch of Xbox fans going on the defensive saying that they always thought the game looked like shit.  Sony is in it bad right now, so the loyal had to step up their game to an obscene level.  Nintendo and Sega fans are a level beyond Sony and Xbox fans, and the worst is that since Sega went under as a hardware maker, many of the Sega fans slowly homogenized into the Nintendo fan base.

Has anyone written a book on this stuff? I'd actually like to see a detailed report about how console fans have evolved over time.
