I don't get it. Maybe it's because I was brought up in a Christian household but the idea of randomly choosing a religion to fit your worldview makes no sense to me. Do these people believe in an afterlife? If so it seems like the choice of which religion to practice seems like a far more important decision than randomly choosing one because it sounds good.

I think there are a lot of man babies who still think it's cool and "intellectual" to hate on religion and who don't know how to pick their battles.  Yes, religion has caused a shitload of problems throughout history and is completely controversial, but no, Himuro is not suddenly a huge threat to the community because he has decided to devote himself to Islam.      Let a guy find himself!

I have to admit though that Sony fanboys are a lot more  than Nintendo fans.  With Nintendo fans, you can almost feel their nostalgia of their childhood days through their sugary posts on why Professor Layton 2 should be considered a classic or why Miyamoto should be ranked up there with Da Vinci.  It almost reminds me of my childhood days when I thought Nintendo was awesome but then you realize that while you grew up, most of these guys are over 20 and probably never felt a woman's breast and honestly, probably never will.

Sony fans are just bitter and generally hateful towards anyone who does not worship the PlayStation 3.  The Defense Force is just the typical response from the Sony hive.  Poke it with a stick and you get these insane responses.  Every slight against the PS3 is bound to get you a shitload of hate from either Kittonwy, Jax, Metalmurphy, Kagari, or Private Hoffman.  It's like they all keep hitting F5 on all the recent Sony topics, waiting for the moment when someone dare speak against the PS3.

I think that the Sony fan and Xbox fan are really the same, they just adapt for what the situation throws at them.  Back when there was the false rumor that Mirror's Edge was a timed PS3 exclusive you had a bunch of Xbox fans going on the defensive saying that they always thought the game looked like shit.  Sony is in it bad right now, so the loyal had to step up their game to an obscene level.  Nintendo and Sega fans are a level beyond Sony and Xbox fans, and the worst is that since Sega went under as a hardware maker, many of the Sega fans slowly homogenized into the Nintendo fan base.

Has anyone written a book on this stuff? I'd actually like to see a detailed report about how console fans have evolved over time.

I think Microsoft fans are a variety of different people.  You got the Private Hoffman equivalents, you got the Xboat set, and you got the martyrs.  Sony fans just seem fiercely defensive of the PS3.  The moment when I knew they lost their sanity was when FFXIII went multiplatform.  It was clear that they didn't give a shit about the game itself, just the fanboy prospects of 360's sales grinding to a halt.  At least Nintendo fans will play the game, whether it first came out on another system or not.

I think the SEGA fans ended up scattered pretty badly.  There's definitely a major contingent of SEGA fans in the MS camp, but I've gotten in plenty of arguments with ardent Sonytards only to find out they are displaced SEGA fans.  A hell of a lot of them ended up in the Nintendo camp too.  A lot of SEGA fans ended up as the "angry at the industry" sort, as well.

This is what happened to me... Though immediately following the DC's demise, I had to suck it up and buy a PS2, because that's where all the RPGs were going.
