As I posted on SA:

I don't see the problem with not doing a state this time. Since they're working with new tech, I'd like to see what they can do with one individual city first. One city with a downtown, suburbia, rural area;etc. would be just fine if you ask me. I love San Andreas to death, but in this case, I'd prefer seeing Rockstar a more concentrated area this time just to show off what they can do.

Yeah, as much as I love the way things worked in San Andreas - especially the fact that you could just go to the country and jump off the mountain on a motorcycle, only to parachute to the ground - I felt that Vice City was a more complete feeling world. San Andreas just had too many pointless little streets and roads, and while I realise that's how the real world is, that's not what I want in a game. I want everything to have a point, and a use.

Yeah. Euphoria - the procedural animation/physics engine from Indiana Jones 2007.

A. They launched this website a year before it's release date (this holiday).
B. Rockstar bought the engine but they didn't announce what games would use it.

gt IV is using a lucasarts engine?

A PR release came out but its unsure if they're using it for GTA4. Its the Euphoria Engine. Its main purpose is to employ physics based animation/movement. Think shit like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus when it comes to the way the main character moves and interacts with the environment. I believe Lucas Arts? Showed off the middleware with they're Indy video game, last E3.

As far as GTA4, Rockstar proved they can make a visisually impressive game (Table Tennis), albeit...a small game and nothing like the scope of GTA4. I think they can deliver.

I'm sure they can. Rockstar North haven't put a foot wrong - not often, at least.

I didn't realise the whole Euphoria thing wasn't confirmed. It wouldn't surprise me, though. It would certainly make things easier for them in terms of populating a world convincingly.

I'd really like to see it go back to Liberty City, still my favorite city in the GTA3 canon, obviously due to its paralells with NY. And also because it had Rise and MSX FM, my favorite radio stations in the series.  8)

Oh I know, but its supposed to allow you to roam around the world like in GTA (Take a car, drive around town etc). I doubt its as large as San Andreas though.

Food for some thought: The first GTA consisted of three cities - Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas. These areas were obviously utilized in the 3d incarnations. This game had an add on entitled GTA London 1969. Going from the history of the series, the next title will be in London, or be based around GTAII (which is in a futuristic setting).

Here's to hoping a mixture: a futuristic setting set in London. Hell yes.

I really hope they don't try for the futuristic thing. I lied the familiarity of the previous 3D games - especially Vice City.

Play GTA2. It's futuristic, but it's not overly so.

I have, and while, as you say, it doesn't feel overly futuristic to the point of cliché, I think it's missing what I like about the series. It doesn't feel grounded.

I don't really care about the identifying with things in GTA. I mean, that's nice and all, but apart of the fun for me is the emulation of real world places in a cartoony game world. That's why I prefer GTAI-III's radio over GTAVC and SA's. The game isn't our world, it's within it's own limitations and culture. I think a cyber punk GTA would be really cool, to tell you the truth. Something set up in the 1950's or whatever would be stupid though. No jets, no motor bikes...snore. Why bother?
