What's the appeal of those Dynasty Warrior games?

In concept they sound awesome, but when you get to play them, it's like    . I've tried a few of those games;
and i would get bored within minutes. You fight the same two models with no personality or what seems to be
any type of AI over and over and over again; sometimes you do fight a general or something, but eh what? thats it? Every
battle feels the same; maybe it's because i didnt it enough, but i never felt that there was any strategy at all
other than button mashing and being at the right place during battles to win.

What's the point of those games? Why are they so popular?
