Beyond the Beyond >>>> Shenmue
« on: March 03, 2007, 11:09:46 PM »
I played Beyond the Beyond to completion; Shenmue to near completion; Shenmue 2 for about 2 hours.

Shenmue 2 was one of the worst gaming experiences in recent history.  Def Jam Icon, an awful, awful game, at least kept me mesmerized with its interesting awfulness.  Shenmue 2 had appalling controls, a horrendous localization, and gameplay that in its best moments (the fighting) was just flat out shoddy.  The first game I at least nearly finished (I may have actually completed it.  It was a long time ago), Shenmue 2 left such an awful taste in my mouth.  I am glad the series killed Sega.

I finished Shenmue 1 and got about 20 hours into Shenmue 2 (Xdude) where some dumb bint led me around some Chinese woods and WOULD. NOT. SHUT. THE FUCK. UP. I completed 1 solely because I was a poor at the time and felt I was obligated to complete something I'd wasted $50 on before taking it back. I have no idea why I played 2 as much as I did, save out of spite for all the fuckwits who insisted it was some amazing experience and WOULD GET AWESOME REAL SOON NOW. It wasn't, and it never did. It was like getting diagnosed with AIDS, Parkinson's, and Jotaro's eyeball tumor AT THE SAME TIME.

I recall enjoying Shenmue.  My Mac-loving ICP fanboy roommate tag-teamed the game to completion.  In hindsight, yes, it was shit and I was a poor college student.  We also tag-teamed Blue Stinger. . .without a memory card, at DC launch.

Lol me, my brother, and my cousin all liked Beyond the Beyond until you lost the best fighter on your team. When you finally do get him back, he's a piece of shit. I think his name was Samson? I can't remember.

He's cursed or poisoned or something for like 2/3rds of the game, heh.

Well I liked the first third of the game. I stopped playing after that.
