Will power.

There's some blocking software around, not sure how well it works though.

Mike, just edit your HOSTS file.

it's in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc, and it's a file called hosts

Open with notepad or what have you, and add the following line to the end:
127.0.0.1  www.thesiteyouwanttoblock.com

Make sure you save it as the same file and not hosts.txt (if you're using notepad, do a save as, and set the file type to all files. Name the file hosts, and you're good to go).

 ???

I tried this format but it didnt work

127.0.0.1  www.spankwire.com

the examples in the read me say I need a host name after that like

#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

O shit was I suppose to put in the sites IP not just 127.0.0.1?

Try adding this line to the very end:

127.0.0.1  www.evilbore.com

Just that. Don't modify that line. Don't add anything else.

When you've added it, save the file, and go back to the folder the file is in (C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc).
Right click on the file, and choose properties. Select "Read Only" and "Hidden". Click OK.

Now close out all instances of your browser window. This will clear any temporary stuff from memory. Re-open your browser.

Come back here and tell me if it worked.

Then you CLEARLY aren't doing something right.

Re-read my last post, and do exactly what it says.

Fuck man, here.

Open your hosts file in Wordpad. Delete everything in it.
Paste this in:
Quote
127.0.0.1  localhost
127.0.0.1  www.evilbore.com

Save the file.
Right click it, and select properties. Check "Read Only" and "Hidden".

CLOSE YOUR BROWSER WINDOWS. YES, ALL OF THEM. CLOSE THEM ALL.

Re-open them.

Come here and tell me if it worked.

If that worked, I'll walk you through the rest.

Ok this is whats in there

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

127.0.0.1       localhost

127.0.0.1   http://spankwire.com/

I have closed all browsers ect.  its not working.

Thats exactly what I did and it automatically made it into a .txt.   :(

The only thing that I can think of is when I save its asking me for an encoding type out of ascii, unicode, unicode bid endian, and UTF-8.

Ok I got it to work - sort of.  Thanks Demi  :heartbeat.

I used the site he had to download a fresh hosts file, because for what ever reason my oringinal hosts file was a .msn and it fucked things up.

But Mupepe you were right, it doesn't work the because of the sites subdomains.   :(
