Which of these wars is the most pathetic and lame?
« on: March 06, 2007, 05:21:06 PM »
Format Wars (HDDVD-BLURAY), Console Wars, or Radio Talk Show Host Wars?

I rank them in this order:

1. Radio talk show host wars.
2. Console wars
3. Format war

There is nothing lamer than a radio talk show host who tries to stir up shit with a competing host. Especially when the other host is more successful and doesn't even notice you doing it. (see: Opie and Anthony)

Console wars is one of those things where "Whoever wins, we all lose." fits quite nicely.

The format war doesn't make much sense to me. I don't really know what the difference is... if one is superior to the other that one should win. I need someone to explain this to me as it seems like the most senseless of all the wars.

Well Howard did have a gag order enforced on Opie and Anthony. I can see why they would be upset.

They were talking about his kids and he didn't even know who they were, other than them both being on Infinity. Opie and Anthony are just obnoxious. It's painful to listen to those whores. Howard Stern has participated in his share of gay radio war shit, but Opie and Anthony are just douche bags.

Yeah, cause Howard never trashed other peoples kids.

I agree that the radio wars are dumb. People like you think Howard does no wrong, and O&A fans are the same way. Both shows are full of hypocrites, and taking one side over the other is distinguished mentally-challenged.

Howard Stern did lame radio shit all the time but usually it's not totally 100 percent unsolicited. How would you react of two guys you've never met or talked about in your life. Two guys who're beneath you in the same company were going on the air and talking shit about your kids. It's not like he wanted to stop them from doing their show or stop them from being funny.

He just didn't want two douche bags in the SAME COMPANY going on the air talking about his kids. If it was a gag order to prevent them from talking about him in general that would be a bit different but c'mon. It's also not like Howard Sterns kids are public figures. It's pretty fucked up.

Like I said Howard Stern has done a lot of the dumb radio war shtick but generally there's some base to it that isn't just professional jealousy. Howard Stern hasn't ever really made an effort to rip into them on the air, that's pretty unusual since I think if it had happened a few years prior he would have run them out of Infinity if not the broadcasting business.

You're delusional. Especially if you think Howard has the power to RUN SOMEONE OUT OF THE INDUSTRY. It isn't really any different when Howard came into town and ripped into Imus. You'll probably say Imus was a scumbag behind the scenes or something, but considering Howard ran to Mel and got a gag order put on O&A it won't hold much merit.

It isn't like Howard doesn't pick on people who aren't public figures. If he doesn't want them talking about his kids, he should keep his eye on his daughter and make sure she doesn't go to the KROQ Jingle Ball and overdose.

EDIT: BTW, it WAS a gag order to keep them from talking about him IN GENERAL. They weren't allowed to say his name.

From what I can remember, when they were on terrastial radio they (O&A) couldn't refer to Howard at all meaning, they couldn't even say his name or allude to him.

It's funny we're participating in the very lameness that this thread was founded on.

Howard Stern made more money for his company than any other radio performer. Their performance on regular radio NOW is the worst CBS has seen since David Lee Roth. In fact it's worse. I cannot imagine how pissed I'd be if I were one of the (all 12,000 people) who signed up for XM for Opie and Anthony for them to switch over to a pay service, only to go back and offer the same shit on regular radio. Any performer with any real skill or talent or expression who isn't a total whore would go back to doing a butchered version of their show instead of focusing on the median that offers most creative freedom.

They're performing horribly in the ratings in every market. CBS isn't going to keep them any longer than they have to.

He could have had them run out of the company in a second if he threatened to leave or not renew his contract. Who needs two sniveling rats who're operating beneath you talking shit about your kids? And he talks about people who aren't in the public spotlight (besides the regular people who call in or work for the show)? Really? That must be a really, really boring. Howard Stern has (playfully) ripped on Stephen Spielberg for having a black kid, he's viciously attacked Imus as a father, and talks about Angelina Jolie whenever there's something in the news. The difference between his attacks and the attacks Opie and Anthony dish out is that usually he's joking and when he's not his rage is directed at the parents and not designed to drag their kids out into the public and cover them with shit.

You just typed what Howard says verbatim on his show...

I don't know what makes you think Howard could have run them off. They were  UNDER CONTRACT. CBS paid them to do nothing for two years when they were off the air. Do you think CBS WANTED to do that? But Howard could clap his hands and have them fired and run them out of the company and industry. Yeah, ok...

I don't know if you ever heard O&A talk about Stern's kid, but it's usually pretty vague and not vicious towards the children themselves. You're one sided view is the reason why the radio wars bullshit gets so out of hand.

I wouldn't say it's out of hand at all. I haven't heard Howard Stern mention Opie and Anthony at all since they replaced David Lee Roth. I'd say the radio war is pretty one sided.

I don't know much at all about the radio wars, but I can somewhat see the point in rooting for one side over the other in the console wars... Nostalgia, current/potential selection of games, and whether or not you agree/disagree with the direction the companies are heading in. Reasons 1, 2 and 3 are why I like Nintendo, and reasons 2 and 3 are why I like MS for instance. Format wars on the other hand I think are pointless... Not only has it been shown that most people don't care about HD movies, but the 2 formats seem to be virtually identical to an outsider.

I guess you haven't been listening to the show. They were brought up again the other day when Mel was in the studio to talk about the merger.

I remember it clearly. Robin brought up the question to Mel.

And this is just the most recent time Stern has talked about them. He has done it quite a few times since they went to XM and then FreeFM. If you're telling me he NEVER talks about them, that's bullshit.

I've heard the show. Robin asks if people that are on both terrestrial radio and XM should stick around, and Mel remarks that they shouldn't be giving away satilite content for free on regular radio. Then they all remark about how "those" people shouldn't have jobs.
