When was the peak of Star Trek's Popularity?
« on: March 08, 2007, 10:29:11 AM »
Was it in the seventies, when the popularity of the original show in syndication helped to make interest in an aborted second series (Phase II) that turned into Star Trek: The Motion Picture?

Was it in the eighties, when after several successful movies had hit the box office, a new TV series that took place 100 years after the original was created and became successful?

Was it in the nineties, whenever the Next Generation was having pretty successful films at the same time Deep Space Nine and Voyager were airing?

Discuss.

80's after Wrath of Khan II and before the one with the whale. It was on the same level (or near) Star Wars, in terms of hype.

It was NOT before the one with the whale. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home was the height of popularity(the whale one), it was the most succesful star trek film ever.

Nothing has mached IV yet in terms of box office (inflated obviously)

Even The Motion Picture did better than Khan.

The Wrath of Khan is most well looked upon TODAY but back then The Motion Picture and (especially) The Voyage Home did better.

The Voyage Home was HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE

I think The Voyage Home was the only Star Trek film to even make it on an AFI's 100 years...100 movies list (not sure which list, though).  It was very successful and it launched the franchise into the mainstream - until Star Trek V came along and screwed it all up.  Thanks, Shatner.  :lol
