Okay everyone, I think ya boy just got a leak in his coolant tank. The damn thing keeps running out of coolant. This happens once every other week or so. I almost overheated today.

I'm wondering. What's cheaper? Getting the leak repaired? Or just buying coolant every other week when I get gas?

That depends on how long you plan on keeping the car.

To expand on this, not only is your car overheating, its being damaged each time it overheats, which will result in more problems down the road. Short term who cares, long term you could potentially spend thousands more.

Two or three years.

That's actually what I was afraid of. I keep getting worred when I hear my engine laboring to slow down after I stop it.

Well you can in the short term try your 'refill each time you get gas' until youve shopped around for a good price. Or see if your friends know about car repairs. I wouldnt push it too long tho.

Well, how much will it cost? I mean, can't they just put some crack sealer on the leak wherever it may be? That can't be anything over $20-50.

Labor prices are inflated, what it costs in a pratical sense has nothing to do with it. If you REALLY wanna save money spend some time and do some research on the internet and take care of it yourself.

If you dont want to put time into it, its going to cost you over 100 at least, cause they'll wanna 'look at it' probably

they gotta put the car on the "bench" -- there's a $70ish fee for that. assuming you can convince them it's a coolant leak and you don't need diagnostics, there's the labor charge, which is per hour -- it's usually like $30/$40 an hour. Parts and process will put you back another $40-$50. Yer probably lookin' at around $200-$300 for repairs. Yes, auto repairs are that lame.

I doubt it will be that much. They put the car on "the bench" at my local muffler shop and did a few repairs including replacing a gasket. Only ran me $35.

Plus, when I bought the damn thing I took it to the place I'm thinking about taking it to and I got the intake manifold replaced for under $100.

The story behind that picture used for that emoticon is pretty funny.

I think mechanics in Seattle know us coffee drinkin yuppies dont know shit about our cars lol. I think the fact that the majority of the people near TBS know how to fix their cars probably keeps prices down.

my parents actually took their drunk down to chehalis this week to get it fixed instead of up on the peninsula. it's apparently worth a full tank of gas for the prices/service down in hillbilly country.

That link has the story pretty much covered. The pics are missing because the person who posted them deleted them because he's a pussy and didn't want anyone seeing pictures of his illegal drinking party. I have em saved... but I don't feel like uploading them. I'm pretty sure some creep on here has them hosted on his webspace. The funny thing is that prior to me posting those pictures everyone thought that my avatar was just some random dude.

Put some base inya voice, kid. Also, MAF is right. A lot of people around here fix their own cars, that must keep labor prices down. Not to mention it's a small town. If a bodyshop is swindling the fuck outta people they're going to get a bad reputation in a hurry. That means only business they're going to get is from family and friends. Not a hot look.
