Damn, I still need to see RahXephon. Is it really better than NGE?
And yeah, when I heard Arjuna was more or less Kawamori preaching to us about Global Warming, I decided to avoid it. But I *do* own the soundtrack since YK did it, and it OWNS
I don't even think NGE is that good. It's pretentious, stupid idolization of western religion without any pretense or value gets annoying. It all seems like it was thrown in there to seem deep, much like Xenosaga. Almost all the characters are annoying, and despite the amazing relationships they form and interesting take on psychology that the series holds, the way it presents this story is nothing short of boring. When I think of Evangelion, I think of the big bad battles, because that's when most of the interesting stuff happens, and amazingly enough, that includes character development. Shinji before forced to stay instead Eva 01 while it's on auto-pilot as it brutally destroys Eva 03 (was that the number?) and then finding out it was his friend inside the cock pit the whole time, being the highlight of this amazing mix between battle and character development. Still, Eva stands as the most overrated anime of all fucking time.
I feel that RahXephon does a lot better than NGE, without coming off as pretentious and annoying. There are a lot of memorable scenes and characters in Rah, and I loved the story. There are hardly any battles. It's a mecha series not about the giant robots, but the people, making it feel more human than most mecha series. It's a great twist, and probably my favorite mecha tv series of all time.
