3-13-07 (8:59PM EDT)---- Latest Macross Animation To Be Announced At Tokyo Anime Fair 2007


Animation production company Satelight will host a Macross 25th Anniversary booth at the Tokyo Anime Fair to be held in 2 weeks in Japan. Plans are to formally announce the new work at the event. ANS was the first English source to break news on the new Macross way back on February 5th, the news was then confirmed by Victor and through a revamp at the official website this past week.

Very popular animation franchise from the '80s.  Sort of a sci-fi Top Gun type thing, except the planes transform into robots to fight outer space invaders.  The Macross itself is a giant alien ship that is found by human civilization in the future and they use the technology they find on the ship to build the planes that are used to repel invaders.  It's pretty neat stuff.

Most Macross fans today are probably in their twenties as they grew up with the show (and the show grew up with them - Macross Zero and Macross Plus aren't really kids' shows).

Anyway, call me what you want.  I'm not ashamed of liking animation that features giant robots.  I think giant robots are great.  You could say the same thing about video game fans, at any rate. *shrug*

If you like Gundam, I'd recommend Climax U.C. for PS2, it has all the climactic (lol, get it) battles from all the U.C. series - First Gundam, 8th MS Team, 0080, 0083, Zeta, ZZ, Char's Counterattack, and F91.  Probably has more than 80 playable mecha.

I don't know whether they're rare and expensive.  I bought them when they first came out...it's basically the whole series, remastered (I believe ADV used this remaster for their later releases), with Japanese audio only, and English subs.  Good stuff.

Bandai Ent. released all of Original Gundam, but it's English dub only. It's been recently released in Japan, so we've got about a 5% chance of seeing the original Japanese dub released here.

I don't think it's covered in the movie trilogy.

edit: The reason that the episode "Kukurus Doan's Island" was removed from the English-Language version of the series was that it was cut at the request of Yoshiyuki Tomino himself. He felt that the episode's story was substandard, and it is doubtful that should a Japanese-Language DVD be completed, the episode would appear there either.

I never saw Macross Zero.  Was it that bad?  Everything I read indicated it was a good show.

I like Kawamori's Gundam 0083 designs too, especially the GP02A.  He does really solid mech design, wish he'd do more of it, but I guess he's a busy guy.
