Donkey Koung Country 1 & 2: Best SNES platforms. EVER.
« on: August 24, 2006, 08:34:40 AM »

These games were pure perfection back then, the style, the graphics, the music?  I mean come on now the game STILL looks good.  I hope on the Wii they clean it up a bit around the edges.  Agreed Disagreed WHAT ?!

we will not speak of DKC3.

DKC2 and Yoshi's Island were my two most-played SNES platformers. And those screenshots are really pushing me towards digging out my SNES.

Donkey Kong Country is what pushed me to finally buy the SNES.  It was such a great game.

It was awesome game when I was like 10. I still like it, but in the end Yoshi's Island and Super Mario World have stood the test of time.

Donkey Kong Country was pretty easy, but Donkey Kong Country 2 was a man's game.

I think Donkey Kong Country 2 gave Rare the bad idea that all their platformers should involve collecting stuff, though.

But it worked so well in DKC2!

DKC3 was an abortion, though.

QFT, though I don't think the original DKC was mediocre.  But Yoshi's Island did take a steaming dump all over it.  YI is one of the best games ever.

I gotta go with SMW and Yoshi's Island. DKC was great too though. Haven't played the sequels.

I've heard that Miyamoto was rather jealous of DKC's success, and that fueled his work on Mario 64.

Super Mario World was probably tops for me in terms of pure platforming, but I loved Donkey Kong Country.  Mind-blowing graphics, awesome music, totally atmospheric all around.  I hooked up my SNES not too long ago, and had a blast playing it again.  Still looks good!  A shame I never got DKC2.  On eBay they want crazy money for those cartridges usually.

I totally jerked off to DKC2 today...that game is seriously fucking amazing, the difficulty, the concept, the levels ...good good shit.

Sorry fruity Yoshi takes a backseat to this.

DKC 2 is pretty fantastic.  It's a great balance and has a lot of charm.  I wish Rare had this talent still.
