I was going to post this on GAF, but then decided there would be no point because either

A) I would get banned for bitching or
B) Someone would actually listen and change policy and I would get hated for that,

But it's really hypocritical IMO to have this hyper strict policy on gaming related piracy/emulation or even leaks of media related to games and then allow open discussion of music that is so far away from release date that the only feasible way to have it is to have pirated it. 

I know most of you here don't see the big deal since I'm firmly convinced that I'm the last person on earth that pays for cds and doesn't just pirate everything, but it's really a glaring double standard.  For instance, the Arcade Fire thread is full of people talking about the full album... which doesn't come out until MARCH.  Someone doing that about a game would get banned double quick and frankly I think it stinks, especially with an indie band that hasn't sold 5 billion records and isn't already rich.

That's the thing though, I don't pirate pretty much ANYTHING unless it's unable to be obtained by me paying for it.  I could post it in a hypothetical query, though.

It depends on who's talking about pirated music. I remember talking about Kanye's album before it came out -along with some other people - and we all got banned.

But I've seen Jobber and others talk about the exact same stuff and not get banned

I try hard not to pirate.  I don't pirate games because I do believe it hurts the industry, I don't pirate music because cd prices have become reasonable in the last few years.  I only pirate movies/shows that I can't find on DVD or that I've already paid to see in the theater.  And usually if I take the time to pirate it, I will buy the DVD... because I'm pathetic that way.

Same here. If I pirate a film, I make sure to buy the DVD one day. Take, for instance, Crank -- just by watching a decent rip on peekvid, I felt guilty enough to go out an pick up the DVD today.

BlueTsunami basically got it.  The regularly active mods focus on the Gaming side.  About half the more recent appointments came because the admins felt a need for regular modding on the Gaming Forum, so there's usually a couple people reading the threads, looking for the usual stuff.  There's no equivalent for music threads, as far as I know.

If you see piracy talk happening against the ToS, just PM a couple mods/admins (BUTNOTME).  I won't guarantee any results, but it's probably your best bet.

If you actually want results, then PM iapetus, Amir0x, jinx, iapetus, or Wellington.  Making a stink in the actual thread just gets people defensive about backseat modding.
