Yes, it's happened a couple times. In one case, I became friends with this great philosophy grad student that I'd talk about music and big picture stuff with. I developed a huge crush on him and decided to make him a mix CD. After I gave it to him, he packed up his car skipped town. I assumed that I freaked him out and figured that was that. I heard from him about nine months after he left saying that he'd moved to San Francisco but that he was going to be back in town and wanted to see me. It turns out that the CD (which did have a couple of pointed, I-kinda-love-you songs) inspired him to rethink his life. When he came to visit I found out that he had driven across country, learned a new language, experimented with having sex with guys and was a million times happier in San Francisco. He thanked me for being the catalyst then gave me a kiss which led to some rather amazing sex. We lost touch, but I heard from him not too long ago-- he has a girlfriend and had just finished law school.
Maybe the philosophy student was in the closet... not that I know of a philosophy student who is in the closet...I have to go.
