Black on Both Sides: Hip Hop CLASSIC

Black on Both Sides - Mos Def

This is one of the best hip hop albums of all time. Nearly every song flows with a hunger, wit, and passion that's unmatched by most artists. Backing up Mos Def's amazing rhymes and flow is an assortment of classic production. Is there any doubt that DJ Premier is one of the best, ever?

I also love the more experimentive stuff on the album, especially Umi Says, a true classic. Rock 'n Roll is a pretty crazy song in every way, especially the lyrical assault on white rock.

I hate rap albums that get brought down by too many guest appearances. Here, there are only a few, and they are explosive. Busta Rhymes takes it to another level on Do It Now, one of the most energetic tracks I've ever heard. Q-Tip's contribution to Mr nicca is amazing; it's truly one of the wittiest songs on the album. And speaking of wit, you gotta bring up New World Water. Overall it's just an amazing album omg

Well....yeah.

I love it, but I can't listen to it much these days. Too much overexposure.

Over-exposure? Huh...? It wasn't played on the radio much, compared to say stuff from Biggie's first album or Illmatic

Well, I mean, I've listened to it so many times that it's a bit drab these days.

Ah. I feel the same about Power in Numbers by Jurassic 5, another classic album imo. I listened to it, track for track, all of last summer every night while I played my DS...like up to 1-2 in the morning :lol

My favorite songs on there are: Umi Says, Ms. Fat Booty, Mathematics, Do It Now, Habitat, and Mr. nicca.

I like Rock N Roll, but the beat isn't all that great to me, and it feels like he's trying to hard when covering the subject of the track. New World Water is a waste imo. Other than I love the album, but there's something off when I listen to it these days. I think it's because a lot of the beats are non conventional.

Is his new album out yet?

True Magic is sort of like it. Personally I like a lot of songs on it, but there are so baad songs, mainly Katrina Klap. That shit is horrible, and it's baffling that Mos couldn't think of a better way to pay tribute to those people. He got arrested for playing that shit once. NO WONDER :lol

btw nicca what's yo fav Common album

Like Water For Chocolate. At one point I considered that Resurrection may be my favorite cd ever, but then I realized that most of the lyrics didn't make sense to me. They feel as if they're apart of the 1990's experience it seems, and I was only 10 or so when it came out. So while a lot of the beats sound amazing, I don't know what the shit he's talking about in a lot of songs.

Like Water For Chocolate, however, mixed the stylish and funky beats with the lyrics Common is known for. Be is a possible tie with Resurrection.
