So my dad just called me
« on: March 21, 2007, 07:03:44 PM »
The had to put my dog down   :'( When he started getting old I told them not to put him down without me getting a chance to say goodbye, but they said he got so much worse between last night and today there wasn't much choice. I'm feeling really down because last week was spring break and I could've gone home and seen him one last time.

It's the only dog I've ever owned, and we rescued him from the pound when I was in the 8th grade. My parents let me get a dog because they finally felt we were going to be living somewhere for more than 2 years and because I'd shown I was responsible enough to take care of one. Naturally we moved a year later but that's not the point.

I know this is pathetic but I keep tearing up as I think about how my dog won't be there to greet me at the top of the stairs when I go home again. I really loved that dog.  :'(

A picture I took of him over winter break.

The website my mom made after we got him. So many memories.

:(  My mom did the same to me.  One day she just told me my grandparents put down my dog.  I ran and hid in the empty hot tub and cried for an hour.

i'm sorry to hear about this, blue. my dog passed away last year, and it was the same situation. they had to put her down while i was living in ohio. it was weird not having that closure of being able to say goodbye, but i was also thankful that i didn't have to see her in her worst state. so it's only really really good memories with her. i'm sure you have a lot of great memories with your canine friend too :)

My mom and I were holding my dog when we put him down. It was in the beginning of 2004 and I still think about him and miss him every day. It gets easier, but I don't think I'll ever not miss him.

Don't let anyone try to tell you that your grief is unfounded because he's "just a dog". Anyone who says that is a heartless bastard. My dog was as much a part of our family as my brother is, and I love my cat like I'd love my own child. They're part of the family and they leave a hole in your heart when they pass on, and it's okay to be upset about it.

*hugs*

My dad and I had to put my dog to sleep and I was really sad. I was petting him when they did it. It was really scary too, because you feel the warmth leave his body.

That was the first (and last) time I saw my father cry. He really loved that dog.

that sucks man, sorry  :'(

we had to put down our cat last year out of the blue.  he got real sick in a matter of a week and we took him to the vet expecting to get some medicine and he'd be all better but he had a massive tumor near his rear leg.  it really sucked.

here's what I've learned about death from several funerals of relatives, it's like having a piece of you ripped out and the period of mourning is the time it takes for a scar to cover that wound, but it will never fully close.  you might forget about them for a while, but it will always come back and you'll be reminded of those you've lost.  then you'll forget again, maybe until someone else dies.  rinse and repeat.

I know how you feel. My dog was put down yesterday as well   :(

Her name was Coco and she was 20 years old. My mom took her in yesterday because she couldn't even walk without falling over. She's been my best friend since I was 5.

I just try to not think about it, but the small things always remind me. But Coco and Yoda can play together in the afterlife now :) I'm starting to tear up right now, so I'll stop.

Take care, Blue.

A pet is one of the family and it's always tough to lose a member.  Sorry to hear, at least you have good memories

That does suck serious Balls.. :( but the best part is there are a lot more dogs that need rescuing and when your heart heals you can go change another ones life and he/she will probably heal your heart as well. Just like its hard to loose our loved ones, after a while an animal becomes part of the family and is irriplaceable. but the best thing about that is that there is another dog in the pound that just wants to love back.. ;) life goes on and so must we....

Ouch that's sad Catz.

I called my mom today and she said it's really weird for her. She keeps looking around for the dog, expecting him to be right behind her like normal and he's not there. She didn't even want us to get a dog at first and now she can't believe he's gone.

Everyone I've told about this has been real supportive, although no one has seen me cry. When I finally made it home from the computer lab last night I let it all out.  :'( I'm 24 and not above crying because I lost my dog.

Yeah, sadly it'll be years before I can have a dog again, but I'd do it again if I had the time and house to give a dog what they needed and deserved. I wouldn't take another one on if I couldn't care for it appropriately.

The dog I had for nearly 14 years was put down a week ago. It was sad.
