Excite Truck is pretty great.  FFXII is poop unfortunately.  Great atmosphere, sans gameplay.  Disappointment total.

BrandNew: Exactly right about FFXII. I Really wish FFXII didn't have the gambit system or the status effect heavy boss fights where you spend more time using items than dealing with the boss.

But if FFXII didn't have the gambit system, you'd have to deal with the horribly convoluted and unintuitive menu set up. Playing FFXII without gambits is a chore. It's terrible indeed that the game is only playable when the game plays by itself.

What they need to do is combine a battle system comparable to X's with the politcal intrigue story and atmosphere and art style from XII.  That would be the best for the series.

I would love for FFX's battle system merged with the no random battles and movement  that XII incorporated.

Honestly, the only thing I'd change about X's system would be the sphere grid, but only slightly.  I'd just want it to be a tad bit more open-ended when you start so you can customize your characters to your preference and not have it so linear.

Actually, fuck FFX's battle system. FFX-2's battle system with no random battles and free movement would be SEX.

I didnt like FFX-2's battle system that much, ran a little fast and removed a lot flexibility in strategy in leu of things you knew would work and could fire off quickly.

FFXII's worst boss I think was that boss that dumped like 6 status effects on each of your team members AND hit you really hard. So your stupid gambits would be firing off trying to dispel crap, but right after you finished at least dispelling the ones that mattered he'd do it again lol.

I thought FFX-2's battle system was far more strategic, and was ATB perfected. I loved those little nuances in the battle system. It was turn based (time based, whatever) but felt like an action rpg. Timing was everything. If you time attacks right you combo enemies, parry their attacks, the works.

And the intensity of the fights made it even more fun. When i heard they were making FFXII, I was hoping from the get go that they'd evolve FFX-2's battle system. Sucks FFXIII will be the one to do so.

I missed Icewind Dale II when it came out. So, I'm going to give her a shot.

I still need to finish up the last third of Hulk ... not sure if I will.

Yeah, just play Windy Dale 2 as you would a squad-based combat strategy game and it's golden. Don't wander in and expect lots of dialogue or exposition.

TITAN QUEST. I got two artifact recipe drops this morning before work. I decided to go Harbinger with my guy now that he's level 8. Fun stuff, I would play more but I keep falling asleep at 10:30PM every night.

Yeah, the Dale games have always been about teh combat :) I still liked how broken the first IWD got with Heart of Winter. An entire party of druids stacking traditionally outdoor spells indoors lol.

Remember fallout tactics frag? I had enemies with baseball bats  beat my guys with uzis, it was boggling.

Didn't have too much issues with FO:T, other than that it was a pretty middling game. Of course , I was never a whore for Fallout like most people I run into are.

I never min-maxed Windy Dale 1. Man, that game had some great enviornments-I miss the sheer amount of unique settings that the old 2D Infinity Engine allowed which aren't possible in today's age of having to model/texture/design everything.

Haha, well IWD1 was broken with the expansions, druids were pretty overpowered and most of the spells stacked and a lot of 'outdoor' spells seemed to work indoors plus they could still wear decent equipment unlike the more traditional casters.

IWD2 iirc was unforgiving at release but then there was some community patch that cleared that up.

So, I've put about 6 hours into Icewind Dale 2. Great game so far. The usual horrible pathfinding aside, great iteration of the Black Isle engine. Nice BIG battles that cause force you into alot of strategy. Using the rogue to sneak and scout first, buffing and even setting up ambushes ... beautiful.

Makes me sad that NWN2 couldn't have been on par with this combat philosophy. It really takes me back to the Pool of Radiance days, where you have to rest/save after each and every battle because one misstep can cost you a lot of time/money.

I took a stock party and am thinking I made a mistake. Usually, I take 2 tanks, ranger/rogue, cleric and then two spell casters. Only have one spell caster in this party and it might not be enough. Maybe I can multi-class my rogue into a wizard.

IWD series is great for group tactics, BG2 excelled at almost One on One spellcaster duels.
