Armored Core 4 - Like Metal fairies with heat seakers

I'm a massive, massive mech game fans, and i just picked this up. I'll be real honest, i never tried a single game of that franchise before. And i'm honestly not impressed. The graphics are INSANE, but the gameplay is.. wtf?

Each missions so far (i'm at chapter 3) usually last less than a minute, your objectives are always to destroy a bunch of super easy to kill mechs. The economy is completly fucked up (I have no idea how i manage to be in the hole after most missions, ugh). Projectile based weapons are worthless online since everybody is so far; everything is a spam fest.

The garage mode is terrible and a massive clusterfuck of a UI. You can buy shit two different ways and you can end up installing hardware on your mech without having the funds; so this way you can end up saving your too expensive mech config over your previously working config, and you end up not being able to exit the garage mode unless you return your mech to its original config. Its so fucking confusing, I have no idea what went wrong.

I haven't played online yet, but I've been enjoying it so far on my PS3. The short missions are a little annoying, but I'm a sucker mechs+boosting.

From all the reviews i've read the game seems to focus less on the single player experience and more on the experience of 1v1 online or something and mech part swapping. Kinda lame for people who love single player experiences, like myself.

gametrailers had videos of the online play.

It made no sense.  A guy would shoot 20 missles and the other guy does a small boost and avoids them all.  Occasionally a small guns' shot hits the enemy.  The environments online are literally flat-shaded boxes.  Some have multiple floors but that's it.

Not only are most missions incredibly short, but you're not even given an option to start all over again when you fail one. You're forced to bear loading times to get to the menu, re-select the mission, skip the intro, bear some more load times and _then_ try again. It makes the game needlessly frustrating. A shame because in spite of the barren environments the mechs look very good and control well, and the bullshit science-fiction story is pretty interesting.

And yeah I haven't got a clue on how to upgrade the mech either. The default guns that came bundled with it fire at an incredibly slow rate.

The 360 build is the one I use and it does look nice, but based on some Gametrailers video the PS3 one looks pretty damn similar too though.

the difference between the two is so tiny they had to do side by side screenshots and point at robo-joints. its not even worth analyzing imo

to upgrade, you hold X to make the buying popup, then you can buy whatever you want. The thing is, you can 'equip' right away a piece without knowing how much it costs; so after going back a few menu, you get a popup saying you need to pay this and that and uh thats it.

It's so weirdly done. Maybe i just need to spend some more time on it. Mondain, whats your xbl tag, we could play 1vs1
