Puzzle Quest AI has the Devil's Luck
« on: March 25, 2007, 12:23:11 PM »
Im level 13, crafted my first item, i've certainly put 3-5 hours into the game so far. Yet the AI isnt doing anything that seems smart, just that the AI seems 'gifted'. Im talking 'can see the three invisible rows above the board' gifted. I've never seen so many chained 4 of a kinds from top down drops in all of my life. Its not just that it happens a few times, its CONSISTENT.

Honestly its making it impossible to win some of these matches where im ahead by 30 hp and the AI just chains skulls x 5 and 4 of a kinds along the top two rows.

Wtf. Trade in impending if this keeps up.

There's so many transactions going on in one game, and the actual number of different puzzle pieces are not too large.

The law of large numbers is bound to bone you in the ass a couple of times. I had some of the same things happen to me in the PC demo but I didn't think it was cheating as much as I think four in a row = free turn isn't a great design choice.

It happens a LOT with enemies around level 12-13 or so. Every time I get close to winning they do that top row bullshit. Or I love when they get opening move and do like 30 damage to with chains in rows n shit.

I think the worst part is im afraid to make ANY moves, as half of the moves I make can even create top row hijinks that benefit the AI and the AI only.

I think the solution is to play more Titan Quest.

Speaking of which, I got ANOTHER stupid blue shield drop, that makes three and I'm barely into act 2. I dual wield, so it doesn't help me any. :(

allowing damage on the opening move is BS. the "lucky chains" the AI gets are aggravating, but getting massive damage and losing a huge chunk of HP on the first move is just lame.

God damn they get some lucky fucking chains from the TOP! Id understand MORE if the AI figured out the board to produce chains like I HAVE TO, but to just be given chains from the ether is BOGUS.

Is this game still worth playing though? Should I wait until it gets cheap or just flag it? I did quite enjoy the PC Demo.

I know what you mean, when you get paid its like "sweet Im gonna pick up some new games" even though youre already halfway through 5 games and havent even touched 3 more. Im just trying to make up for when I was younger and poor, when 1 new game was OMG and I played it hardcore until I did all the side quests and shit.

Got my hands on this today and have been playing for about almost 3 hours now. Its simply awesome.

I think the reason I'm enjoying it as much is due to the fact that I've come off an attempted (and failing) play through of the original Phantasy Star series. The offbeatness of this game when it comes to the Bejeweled style gameplay is just so fucking refreshing...oh god. I've learned that Random Encounter type of RPGs are as dead to me as my biological father.

Anyways, love the game (so far) and it being portable is unf unf unf and stuff. I got the PSP version btw.

I just went toe to toe with a Minotaur :( Six battles with the same one..me losing 5 times and winning the last. Oh god was that thing annoying.

I'm a Warrior btw. I LOVE spamming "Throw Axe" when there are a lot of skulls on the board. I got upwards of 15 Damage points on an enemy a couple of times due to this ability. It rocks. I think the game responds to that too...because I redid that quest and the Catapult started spamming one of its own moves like crazy :lol

Haha omg get the Great Axe from the shop in elven town. I've been winning more than losing today. I think the ultimate strategy is to avoid trying to get skulls into position and just let the AI do it for you. Make matches as far away from skulls as possible making the AI do it for you.

AI fucks it self over bad that way. Anyway collect runes too. Rune-Crafting is FREE and makes insanely good items. The Great Axe, which I bought in elven land was like 600 gold almost but it gives me a 50% chance to get an extra turn whenever I deal more than 5 damage, which is almost all the time. OMG I DOMINATE.

My characters level 16 and im using the temple to augment his skills into the stratosphere.

Yep, I've got that weapon. Its really good when its mixed with a high Battle Skill. I probably get an extra turn like every other time I match 3 skulls together :D

Right now I'm trying to figure out how to really raise my characters attack power since raising his battle skill up isn't really raising the amount of points he can damage with. My Warrior has a level 36 Battle Skill (level 16 for Fire) and some for Cunning and Morale.

I like how you can sack towns and get mounts and build weapons n shit. Once you stop losing every fucking time its a lot of fun.

I tried to capture a town and my eyes bugged out when I saw the HP of the place (200). I'm going to have to level up my Morale a bit more.

Oh and thanks for reminding me about the Training area. I was able to raise my non natural elemental abilities up since it was only around 500 Gold for each point (didn't want to waste 3 Skill points on a Level up).

I just forged a kickass necklace. Medallion of Poison! It has a modifier of 4+ to Attack for every Mana Reserve thats full. Plus! It has a 30% chance of Poisoning the Enemy! OH GOD! YES!

It was hard to create too. The Forge level was "Hard". I had to destroy 8 Anvils. This mixed with my Bow (Erik's Bow) which gives me 1+ for each attack thats over 3 and 1+ for every 5 of my levels...my character is fucken awesome now.

Runekeepers are a pain in the ass though. They have this special modifier where their attack power increases with each Mana full mana gauge. You get some kickass ones though...but Forging on Hard and Very Hard items will make you pull out your hair.

I'm not sure if you can catch a Wolfrider. You can catch a regular Wolf as a mount though. I'm currently using a Griffon. Also, the level of the mount (by leveling it up in your Citadel) determines if you able to avoid monsters on the World Map.
