Is Vista Worth Getting?

My friend's wife just bought a brand new laptop that had Vista installed.  I saw nothing mindblowing, and also took note of how SLLLLOOOOWWWW this PC was running because of it.  I take it you need a lot of RAM for Vista to run smoothly?

Vista looks really good IMO.  And it runs real smooth as well.  I wouldn't say it's WOW! but it's a really nice change from XP.

I like Vista a lot, been running it for a while. Play lots of games. If ANYONE IS A PROBLEM ITS MR NVIDIA

i've got Ultimate, and while there's a lot that's really cool, there's nothing that's really necessary, or that can't be emulated in XP.

What i meant to say was that there was nothing that Vista could do for me that couldn't be emulated in XP. i'm thinking the breadcrumbs in explorer, indexed search, previous versions, etc. And the sidebar is still worthless to me since they didn't bother copying Konfabulator's HUD view.

i'm not too excited for DX10 since i don't game on my PC, though once i bump my RAM to 3GB, get a dual display setup and possibly another video card, it would be a shame not to try a couple.

Vista is nice. The total disaster of Creative and nVidia's drivers have kept me from migrating, though, and it still looks like it will be months before that situation is un-fubared. I don't want to go to a new OS if it means that  bad drivers are going to reduce my game performance in some stuff by 15% or more. That's just not acceptable.
