The book is much, much better than the movie.  It's really disappointing that the director didn't film in NYC (the movie really needed that atmosphere) and decided to shy away from showing most gore.  The movie should have presented a contrast between the extreme decadence (drugs, sex) and violent gore of Bateman's private life with the luster and materialistic sheen of his public life.  I think this really hurt the movie a lot.  It's a shame because I thought the casting was pretty much perfect, the director just didn't know how to handle the material.

It has a number of really good scenes, but as a whole I think it suffers from what I said before, plus the decision to try to add tension to it by turning it into a pseudo-suspense film ("will the detective discover patrick bateman's murderous hobby?!").  I dunno, a flawed film of a great book.  I wish someone would remake it, with Bale in the lead again, heheh.

Anyone ever see the sequel? Now that was just painful. I had wished bale would have killed me before watching it.

I'm pretty sure it was originally supposed to be a regular DTV horror movie and they added in the American Psycho references in at the last minute so they could label it as a sequel and get some sales from the title recognition factor.  They did the same thing with 8MM 2, which was originally an original DTV movie and not a sequel to anything.

God so all of theses horrible direct to dvd movies really arent made by the big film houses? Still like ever few months one of these comes out thats a "sequel" to a ok moderate good movie or shit movie and they always slap the number 2 on it.  :lol

I just about die when he starts monologuing about Phil Collins and Genesis. So great  :lol And when he kills Paul Allen, I just about lose my shit. One of the funniest scenes ever.

awesome movie, though i don't understand the ending with his lawyer saying that he had lunch with the 'dead' guy. he went back to the house and that woman looked to him as if though she took care of the body in the closet which would mean that he actually killed him...WHY DON'T I UNDERSTAND
