I decided to do a weekend box office topic weekly as well as my dvd tuesday so here we go:
1. Blades Of Glory: $33,000,000

Will Ferrel continues to prove he is box office gold with the #1 result of Blades of Glory following the massive success of Talladega Nights. If this movie continues to do well(it has little to no competition in comedies any time soon) it will be yet another 100 million film for the star. This is also co-star, Will Arnett's ("Arrested Development") first major role that resulted in a large success at the box office. His previous staring role "Let's Go To Prison" was a bomb. This is also Jon Heder's ("Napoleon Dynamite") first box office success.
Both Will Ferrel and Will Arnett will star in the upcoming comedy "Semi-Pro" about a fictional basketball team from Flint, Michigan. It is currently being filmed now.
2. Meet the Robinsons $25,056,000

For a children's cgi film this is seen as a good opening but for a Disney film it continues it is plauged by rather average box office results much like Chicken Little in comparison to their work in the early-mid 90's. Meet The Robinsons continues the trend of not coming to close to matching Pixar numbers, even the slightly disappointing results from Cars would be a dream number for a Disney film currently.
The next internal Disney animated film will be going back to it's hand-drawn roots with Frog Princess, Disney is hoping that this more traditional route will bring back their numbers from the past decade.
3. 300 $11,155,000 ($179,662,000)

300 looks to continue to hold on extremely well. It is on it's way to become 2007's first film to top 200 million. It's star Gerard Butler will be doing a remake of "Escape From New York" soon and 300's director Zack Snyder is signed on to direct "Watchmen".
4. TMNT $9,160,000 ($38,428,000)

TMNT had a huge drop from last weekend which is surprising for a family film. Any chance of it breaking 100 million are long gone. The film should finish with a 60-65 million total which while dissapointing will be double what the film's budget was. It's modest budget and the expectation of strong DVD sales will mean a sequel is still likely, but do not expect it to get a higher budget.
5. Wild Hogs $8,389,000 ($135,355,000)

The biggest shocker of 2007 continues to hold very strong. Despite horrible reviews this film has incredible legs at the box office and will easily top out at over 150 million.
