I was just in Osaka, and at Amerikamura, I got approached by a black man who asked me if I wanted to look at "big shirts." So my fiance and I went with him into his shop, and looked at some clothes. Nothing really stood out, but I figured if the shirts were cheap enough, I'd get one or two. I figured they must be around 2000-3000 yen each from the looks of them. There's NO PRICE TAGS on anything, and the guy just pulls out a calculator and goes "12000 yen."

So I start to leave and he drops it down to 8000 yen, then 6000 yen "because we're brothers," and I say I'll think about it and we leave. He was from Nigeria, and I couldn't help but think of those 419 scammers the entire time he was talking to me. His Japanese was really damn good though...better than his English.
Anyway I went to a Japanese store down the street with hip-hop clothes, and despite wanting a cheap shirt, ended up getting one that was 12600 yen.

I don't know too much about blacks in Japan, but I've seen plenty of black guys with hot Japanese girls (sometimes more than one on each arm) that seemed to be getting along just fine. And yes, Blackace got married to a Japanese girl a little while back, and had dated several other Japanese girls before that. I'm a white Jewish guy, so I can only go from my perspective, but the racism I've encountered is either in inaka hick towns outside the big cities, usually from people who are over the age of 50. The younger crowds are very much into other cultures and a hell of a lot more accepting. That cartoon posted earlier is dead-on, but think about it...you're in a country DOMINATED by one type of people who have a lot of the same features and hair. Of course you're going to stand out, and it makes you exotic and appealing to a lot of people. The same thing happens back home, too.
