Are the American Idol judges and audience so inept that they would reject three of the all time most amazing male vocalists?

How would old legends stand up to the shows distinguished mentally-challenged viewing audience and judges? Maybe Jeff Buckley would win, because he was fucking hot AND had an amazing voice.

Pretty sure Mercury would definitely get on, but America is pretty stupid and would pick some Sandgina guy instead.

I don't watch the show but I hope Sanjaya wins. I'm for the votefortheworst.com and Howard Stern movement. I'm for whatever ruins the shows already shoddy credibility.

Harry Nilsson sang the best and most famous rendition of Without You (written by Badfinger). He had one of the most beautiful voices ever. Was collectively the Beatles favorite contemporary American singer/songwriter/musician (John Lennon produced one of his albums).

He also sang One. (One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do, two can be as bad as one it's the loneliest number since the number one).

Everybody's Talkin'

You're Breakin' My Heart, the most fun song featuring the word fuck ever.

Coconut (Put the lime in the coconut etc. etc.)

You'd know a lot of his songs if you heard them. He has a truely amazing voice.

The other guy is Captain Beefheart. He's another guy who has an astoundingly versatile voice but wouldn't exactly call him mainstream.

There's Without You. His most famous song. I can think of a few other songs that show off his beautiful singing voice. Remember being one of them. A lot of his songs are just very charming and goofy. Especially Gotta Get Up and You're Breakin My Heart. YOU'RE BREAKIN MY HEART, YOU'RE TEARIN IT APART... SO FUCK YOU!

You're a good guy. :thumbsup

I don't have that one. :[ I had to pay like $40 importing Pandemonium Shadow Show and Aeriel Ballet (and Aerial Pandemonium Ballet) from Germany since I couldn't find it ANYWHERE and it wasn't on sale at all domestically. I need to get the Point. I've heard it's good... I have what I just listed and Son of Shmilsson and Nilsson Shmilsson.

Tom Waits should try out for American Idol next year.  He'd be a shoo-in.

I don't think any of those guys would make it, and to be honest, I had to look up the last guy's name on Wikipedia.  :-\

try that, lemurs.  it's a little sampling of the music from the point, called "think about your troubles."
the narrative pieces nilsson does between the songs really give it that something special and extra charm, but this has always been my favorite straight-up song from the album.

It's cool I met someone else who likes Harry Nilsson<3 hooray. :D

Would you say the album leans more towards the Shmilsson persona or the Pandemonium/Ballet/Newman  persona.

if i had to make that sort of distinction, i'd say it's more a leaning toward the newman-esque covers.  don't let that discourage you if you're not into that stuff, though; nilsson definitely mixes in a few different musical styles on the point, and if one strikes you as maybe a little juvenile, others are almost surprisingly adult.  the conceit of the album is that it's a kids' story, told by harry nilsson, with tons of great nilsson music.  i've  been listening to it since i was twelve, and in the ten years since, i've never outgrown it.

totally worth picking up.
