UK Hip-Hop (not Dizzee Rascal)
« on: April 05, 2007, 09:31:56 AM »
Okay Dizee Rascal has some really good production but his lyrics ugh.

Klashnekoff (best British rapper IMO)
Murda:
Black Rose remix: (not a film clip)
His latest album is a bit of a let down tbh.

Surprised to see no mention of Roots Maneuva... I think I prefer grime to UK hiphop, namely because of its garage roots.

Could never get into Roots Manuva. It's been about a year since I've checked any grime but then it seemed to be a lot llike gangsta rap but with shanks and bats instead of gats.

Utter trash. I wouldn't even classify that as "rap"; more like sped up grime regge. And I thought the south made horrible hip hop. >:(

Please. These people actually put some effort into delivery ala Kool G Rap and not trying the laconic stylings of most American rappers now.

Also they are more 'hip-hop' than grime. Also Roots Manuva raps more slowly than this.

Delivery? Are you joking? IF you think Dizee can flow you're crazy.

If you want to talk about delivery I suggest Common. Or Nas. Or Rakim. Or Immortal Technique. Or Talib Kweli

smh

Did I say Dizzee?
First Nas has never been known for his delivery or flow. Neither has Talib or Immortal Technique.
Jesus listen to the shit before you comment.
The fact is the UK > USA in area of up and coming talent.

Nas has never been known for delivery or flow? WTF are you on.  :lol

Talib has never been known for flow? wow

In terms of up and coming "talent" I'm not impressed at all. Granted there isn't much good new talent coming out of the US either outside of Lupe and a few others, but come on. This is like southern trash rap with equally bad lyrics. I'm sorry, but rap is one of the last genres you'll ever see foreign artists surpass American ones in.

I liked the production though

Himu/Beezy where are you

Nas negatives have been his lack pervieced charisma and his flow.
Talib has always put in more syllables into a sentence than necessary.
Where have you been?

The US is stuck in hole, with mainstream artists always going to the same 4 producers for a hit and spouting the same shit and the 'underground' veterans coming up with nothing new.   Atleast the UK trys  to brings new music up.

Maybe I woke up and Illmatic was never released. Nas has one of the best flows, and his delivery is great. Even his shitty stuff flows. I'll cede you the point on Talib - no one can argue against that.

Maybe you aren't paying attention to "underground" veterans. Just because something is "fresh" and "new" does not mean it's good, or better than anything. The Laffy Taffy song was pretty fresh and new compared to everything out, and it sucked ass. And that type of southern rap is exactly what I'm reminded of when I hear Dizzee's non-existant flow and poor lyrics.

Okay the Nas thing is purely subjective so we'll never agree on that.

Same becomes stale. You might not like 'new' or 'fresh' that but not everybody does ie the Hip-Hop is Dead consensus thing.

Hold up, that's not fair. Just because what you say is what's going on in popular / mainstream rap doesn't mean every US hip-hopper is doing the same shit. Thes One, Edan, Young Einstein, MF DOOM... all making innovative hip-hop.

PS Now I remember where I heard Jhest before - he's worked with J-Zone! Another innovative hip-hop producer.

By 'underground' veterans I meant Common, Talib, Mos Def etc.
Okay point conceded Edan and MF Doom (though not a fan) are doing something different. Haven't heard the rest.

Anyway PD would like to listen to the same four rappers for the rest of his life.  >:(

Heh I've been out of the 'scene' along time so I'll probably get reacquainted. PUTS was good, didn't know they had a new album out.

Yeah PD is a dummy but I want his homies Beezy and Himu to do a Game on him.

I disagree. Maybe it's my personal opinion, but Nas has always had an amazing flow, he just does it his own way. I mean, listen to 'Halftime".

I'm all for branching out. I haven't heard anything from a lot of the artists mentioned in this thread, UK or not.

Himu/Beezy where are you

Also Nas is my favourite rapper. The trouble is Nas's flow is really nuanced (at least compared to other rappers) so you really have to listen to pick up the changes in pacing etc and really most people can't be bothered.
A lot of people define charisma as being 'extroverted' while Nas I find draws people in, rather then coming at them. Again not everybody likes that.

It's true that Nas has a non conventional flow, but to say he's an average flow or whatever seems kinda off to me. The guy has it in him, it's just that most of his songs can't nearly touch the stuff that's on Illmatic.

He's my favorite mc as well...next to Common.

MF Doom is pretty awesome, although a tad overrated. And no, I don't listen to the same four rappers; luckily Common is pretty damn consistant. I would say the same about Talib but his last album was...yeah

He is someone who doesn't have a good flow. Lyrically he's witty, although for the most part his stuff doesn't have much meaning or reason
