I traded in a big sack of horseshit I didn't want anymore to Gamestop, taking advantage of some "Trade _ Games And Get _ Extra Credit" offers they had going on (the only time you should ever trade-in at GS), and caught up on some newer games:
1. Call of Duty: Roads to Victory for PSP - I know, I know, I have a WWII game sickness. I was hoping for good things here, since the screenshots looked good and COD games are usually quality, but the then reality of FPS on PSP sets in and BURNED AGAIN SUCKAH. It's pretty, it sounds like a COD game, it has all the ingredients of a COD game, but the auto-aim is too easy (you can seriously be aiming at the right side of the screen and headshot a Nazi on the left side of the screen). Without the auto-aim, however, you can't hit shit. It's a damned shame when EA gets it all right with MOH on PSP, and Activision can't get their shit together. No more FPS on PSP for me. Take a wild and crazy chance, Ubisoft, EA, and Activision - give me a cool 3rd person Brothers in Arms, COD, or MOH action/TBS game on PSP. Fuck trying to cram console controls on the PSP, it just ain't working. And speaking of WWII game sickness...
2. Medal of Honor: Vanguard for PS2. Or, aka "Medal of Honor: Airborne's Gimpy Little Brother." As far as MOH console games go, it's better than European Assault and Rising Sun, but not as good as Frontline. Recycled music (hire a new composer and orchestra, you cheap fucks), same-y settings, AI squad that won't get the fuck out of your way and cause you to get grenaded (seriously, I'd rather fight the war alone than be hampered by G.I. SLOW in another WWII game), no widescreen or progressive scan support, lack of sensible checkpoints, and several game-stopping glitches bring this down. I broke a PS2 controller over this game. I'd just slogged through the same thirty minutes of level for about the fourth time, and was supposed to set some charges on a gun, but when I got there this time the flashing red "charge" box wouldn't appear, no matter what I tried. I got so mad I jumped up from the couch and tossed the controller down in disgust, but it caught square on the edge of my coffee table and knocked the R1 button completely out of the controller. PS2 controllers are kinda flimsy - I didn't even throw it that hard. I'll try to fix it, since it's a silver one and they don't sell those separately (WTF Sony), and I will probably have more fun patching the controller up than I had playing the game.
3. Puzzle Quest for PSP - I think the AI is cheap, with combo strings on the first move that knock off half my health, and incredible "luck" regarding the gems/skulls falling from the top - but I can't stop playing because fuck you Puzzle Quest. Love/Hate thing here, definitely.
I paid actual cash for
4. Guitar Hero II 360 - I made a whole thread about this. The only thing I will add is that they should have thrown us assholes who play on Easy a few bones and given us some money/unlockables. I don't think I'll ever get good enough to actually buy any shit, and I want an Afro with a fist pick sticking out of it if you can buy one of those.
