Favorite Season of Buffy
« on: April 05, 2007, 11:19:42 PM »
I just finished watching season three and it was exceedingly better than I remembered*. In fact it is likely the best season of Buffy. However my favorite season is season two. Spike’s a badass, Sarah looked damn hot and wore those great tank tops, there were some great individual episodes and  it just fills me with a nostalgic feeling.

Season one was cheesy, but in a good way. I also loved how each episode's horror theme was an allegory about high school. I'm sure if I went to high school, I would have loved it even more (I should have been in grade nine at the time).

*Interesting how our memories work. Each time we remember we alter the original memory. So in a sense you only remember something once, and then you remember the altered memory. After eight years I only remembered the things I disliked about the season, like the awkward party scene, or the fact that Sarah had too many colors in hair through the first few episodes, or Willo being a 'wicca'.

Should I get season four on DVD? I quit the show sometime during the season.

I went for a couple of weeks.

Spark Notes
I was bullied badly throughout grade seven, and switched schools. My sister slowly wasted away from anorexia during grade eight. She went into a coma during the first day of high school and died two weeks later. I avoided and lost all my friends through those two years. I was a mess and nobody pressured me to go to school too much and I was not mature enough to force myself to do it.

Season 7 it went out with a bang.
I hope you go out with a bang.  >:(

One of the girls at the high school I teach at suffers from anorexia...I got really worried about her as I saw her steadily losing weight, I reported it to her homeroom teacher and he was like "Oh, I'd noticed it but I hadn't talked about it with her or her parents yet.  I guess if you notice it too I should talk to her folks about it."

She ended up hospitalized (due to anemia or something) and dropped out of school.  I have no clue what she's doing now, heard she got transferred to another school.  It's really sad, she was academically a very good student...situations like that, I've never been prepared to deal with before and I didn't know what to do. :/

My sister was very bright too. She was a mathematical genius (white girl too lol), a great writer, and a gifted painter. Unfortunately she wasn't all there before she died and destroyed all her paintings. All except one, which I assume she could not find. It was a painting of Jesus she did when she was 12 or something.

That's horrible.  I wish as teachers we got some more training on how to deal with students' personal problems.  That's something I would really find useful, more than the umpteenth conference on how to teach English.

I have come to support Malek.  I have never seen a full buffy episode - expect 30 replays soon!

wow, I'm sorry to hear that, Malek.  We have a family friend who suffers from anorexia. She was hospitalized and never finished her senior year at high school. She ended up damaging her intestines and digestive system to a point where she can no longer eat normal food properly. She seems to be doing better nowadays, though still very very skinny and insecure. I think she compensates for her insecurities by finding abusive boyfriends that her family hates. I never understood why she thought she was ugly or fat, she's actually quite pretty. She looked like a young Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.

On a side note, there was an interesting HBO documentary on anorexia and bulimia not too long ago. I think it was called "Thin." Very heartbreaking to see how these 90 lb girls perceive themselves as fat and the lengths they go to to hide it.

And on a lighter note, the only Buffy seasons worth buying imo are 1-3.
