Chocobo Tales

Anybody here pick this up? I started it on my lunch break today... the graphics look pretty damn good; it's probably the best looking 3D game on DS so far. It's no where near the pixellated mess that FF3 is (although you can still see pixels), it easily eclipses anything on PSX and maybe even N64. The minigames that I've played haven't been terribly inspired, including a takeoff of the Mario minigames where you draw a trampoline under him for him to bounce up high, one where you stop an Adamantoise from sliding down a ledge, and another one where you rotate an Adamantoise to move through a race track (this last one controls very smoothly, too). Didn't really explore much of the card battle system, but its cool being rewarded new cards as you complete "achievement" style goals on the minigames. Some of the dialogue is cute, too. Looks like a winner, if the minigames improve as I play.

It looks really silly. Can someone explain the appeal?

Based on an hour of playtime

Things that I do like:

-Remixed music from various FF games (the Gurgu Volcano, FF1 battle theme, FF5's Sealed Castle of Kuza are some I've saw)
-FF trainspotting
-Attractive graphics - arguably the current 3D pinnacle for DS
-Card based gameplay *MAY* get to be pretty deep and strategic (Baten Kaitos showed me that I can enjoy cards in a battle system)
-I like how new chocobos, people, objects, etc get added to the world map as you complete minigames... reminds me VERY much of SoulBlazer, which is only a good thing
-Dialogue that fits the game - lighthearted, with some silly references and jokes, which aren't out of place here like the "Real ultimate power" and "Trogdor" jokes in the FF advances, and not excessively punny to the point of annoyance like Rocket Slime

Things that I don't like (may of course change as I play more!):

-Trial and Error in some of the minigames... some of the "gold" targets for the minigames (like the bomb wall, and stopping the rolling ) seem nearly impossible to get without LOTS of retries... but I'm getting quite good at overcoming my video game OCD and not trying to get 100% for every single damn game
-Some of the minigames feel fairly uninspired, i.e. nothing as fun as the Slingshot in SM64DS, arguably the most fun stylus minigame ever

Well, I'm right near the beginning of chapter 3

... and I've only done 3 card fights so far, 1 of them being the "trial" fight. Not sure if this is gonna pick up in the future. There are plenty of minigames and "microgames" (even more minimal and simplified minigames... with some pretty lofty goals to get the best cards). I just got to some rhythm puzzle and, I have the rhythm of a jew and I couldn't get anywhere after like 10 tries today, fuck I hate rhythm games  :punch
