First two movies are totaly polar opposites in direction but I like them. I disklike 3 and Resurection.

Aliens is really, really awesome, but Alien is probably one of the scariest movies EVER. It's probably one of my favorite movies ever and in my top three scariest films of all time.

Aliens is awesome, but Alien, IMO is clearly the better film in all aspects.

The second movie is 100% aces as well. It's universally praised, and there's certainly nothing "dumb" about its big-ness. It's like the blueprint for those types of movies but so many movies since then have done it wrong that it kinda cheapens it; I remember you made a similar analogy with respect to The Godfather. I see it as the same thing.

Alien is the second scariest movie I've ever seen, and for that I'll say Alien>Aliens.

Aliens is the blueprint for all the big, dumb sci-fi actioners of today.  The original is still pretty good, though, even though James Cameron ripped off Starship Troopers (the book, not the movie, obviously) for a bunch of the movie's elements.
