up until Battlefield Earth (and maybe still) it was easily the most ill-concieved big budget studio film I've yet seen.  And for a family-adventure type film (the 80's made so many great ones) its pretty dang creepy and sexual.

Its not even fun for camp value, its just a very misguided, annoying, brazenly stupid, incompetent film.  If you liked, you could pinpoint it as the precise moment George Lucas lost his shit.
