That's obviously the very first gray costume he builds in captivity.

It looks amazingly close to the original.  I'm officially excited about this movie. :hyper

No, that's Iron Man.  His original incarnation ALWAYS looked like that.  It's pretty cool that they're going to give him a legitimate origin then.

I believe it takes place in modern times, and Tony Stark gets kidnapped while traveling in the Middle East.  The rest of the story is quite similar to the original, though - he and some other scientist are forced to build weaponry, and he uses scrap and spare parts to construct the original suit.

I dunno why PD is laughing, the fact that they're doing an apparently accurate retelling of the origin story (obviously updated for modern times) is wonderful news.

The origin story for Iron Man in a nutshell (from what I remember, not checking Wikipedia for this):

Tony Stark is an arms/technology manufacturer.  He gets captured by enemy forces while traveling abroad and he suffers a chest injury that leaves shrapnel close to his heart.  He and another scientist construct the Iron Man suit to keep him alive, and he turns it into a weapon and escapes.

Back home he continues running his company while constantly building new and improved Iron Man suits (which is why the suit's design is constantly changing) and turning Iron Man into his company's spokesperson (and a superhero, obviously).  Nobody knows that it's actually Stark inside the suit, everyone thinks it's one of Stark's bodyguards.

Later on, they gave him an alcohol problem and he lost his company and his best friend/bodyguard took over the suit for a while.  He was also paralyzed for a while after being shot by a crazy ex and the only way he could walk was with the Iron Man suit.  Dunno what else they've done with his character lately.

Why does a big heavy iron suit keep him alive from a shrapnel injury?

Well if I remember correctly the other doctor imprisoned with him is a heart expert, so basically the captors allow the doctor to create some sort 'ticker' to keep Tony Stark alive but the Dr and Tony formulate something to keep Tony alive as well bust their way out of jail.

Only the chest part does that, the rest is secretly built as a weapon to help bust him out of jail.

Also, it's a comic book. ;)

And it's been confirmed that Iron Man will have several different suits throughout the movie, for different situations.

This is a perfect example, because PD making fun of the pictured suit and thinking this is what Iron Man will look like for the whole movie is as dumb as thinking Spider-Man was going to look like that for his whole movie.

PD, just relax and wait for some more shots to come out.  I have a feeling this movie is going to be great.

wtf? Even the trashiest super hero movies make loads of money. Look at Ghost Rider and Fantastic Four.

And it has a FANTASTIC cast and John Faveru(sp?) is a under-rated director who will turn out a great flick.

The crew seems pretty enthusiastic and really into the comic, which is a lot more than any Marvel production can say, Spider-Man and X-Men included (Raimi read Spidey, but was not a really active reader).

Still the argument should have ended when PD said it would bomb. Every super hero movie staring a remotely known character makes money now.

Why? I certainly didn't see you refuting any of the points. The movie was a 6/10 at worse, 6.5/10 at best. Bad acting, bad writing, meh direction, and some of the stupidest characters I've ever seen in a Western.

Children of Men though...omg :bow

You know that's not true in my case.  It's a very pretty movie, and it's engaging to watch, but in hindsight there's really not much meat to it.  It's good while it's happening.  It's entertaining, but nowhere near deserving of the OMG BOW icon. . .especially in comparison to Unforgiven.

There were very few people who thought the Earth was flat from the time of the Ancient Greeks. Even the Catholic church claimed the Earth was round. The problem was that they thought the Earth was at the center of the universe and they held on to the geocentric viewpoint despite all the evidence against them.

I respectfully disagree.  It's very raw and intimate, and I think a lot of people have mistaken lack of unnecessary back story for lack of characterization.  Still an instant classic in every way IMO.
