Vanilla Sky is a terrible movie, but the Cruise character is presented as being extremely shallow and self-absorbed.  That's why the destruction of his looks is a pivotal part of the plot. The mask is important for that reason.

I thought it was awful.  The original was better, but only slightly.  At least in the original you understood why the main character was running away from the crazy bitch...who would run away from CAMERON DIAZ?

and wtf at the cameron crowe hate?  i rewatched jerry maguire a couple of nights ago, and despite the overplayed catch-phrases that were ruined by the public, the movie still has some stuff that is really touching.

I liked Vanilla Sky because I saw it opening day and had no idea whatsoever what it was about... thought it was some stalkerish chick flick but it turned out to have that ending which really took me off guard.

I dont hate Crowe. I dont love him, but I dont hate him. Ive enjoyed Say Anything, Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous and Vanilla Sky all to certain degrees.
