After the wallet rape last week, I'm kind of pleased that this week means only a couple of books purchased. Either way, the Diamond Shipping List is out, so:

MAY060143   ALL STAR SUPERMAN #5   $2.99  :punch :punch :punch

And some Ultimate Spider-Man back issues, if I can get my hands on 'em...

They stocked it? My LCS makes you order them out, because they don't want the books in their stores in case the police come a'knocking.  :-X

I haven't bought any single issue comics in a few years.  NYX was one of the last ones.  I still need to find my issues #3 & #4 since they're selling for decent money on eBay.  They're packed away somewhere.

Instead, I've been buying the hardcover collections.  Usually from Amazon, since I can pick them up for $20 bucks.  It's nice to be able to read a years worth of issues in a sitting or two.  The only problem is that it's a long wait until the next book, and I've usually forgotten a lot of what previously happened.

I have a few books that I need to catch up on.  I need the last couple Ultimate Spider-Man and Best of Spider-Man books.  Runaways and Invincible, too.  Maybe after my next paycheck.

I just picked up the Batman and Superman Chronicles books btw, which are a must for fans of either character. If you're not aware, they're undertaking the massive task of reprinting each and every appearance of the characters in chronoligical order (whew! :o) and putting them together in cheap, well-produced trades. Pick 'em up. Do it. I'm telling you to do this.

Fuck McNiven, the Civil War delay has really fucked me up for the next couple of weeks.  :'(

Though I don't mind having some extra cash in my pocket....

BTW -- is it true that some LCS' don't give bags and boards with every purchase (or, make you pay for them)? I know a few stores like this, but is it a common practice?  ???

Niether of the stores I regularly visit give free bags/boards.  One makes you pay 50 cents, and the other 35.  I just buy them by the 100 when I need them.

Good comic stuff this week... my spoiler filled thoughts:

52: Lobo.... I'll be d*mned man I use to love the Lobo character back in the day. Him pulling off Starfire's chest plate made me chuckle, but I'm curious to see what he's around for... because of the nature of the character(he can't be killed) writing him in to a book(or even his own book) can present problems if you have him around for too long. (i.e. what the hell do you do with him?) Lobo's good in short bursts.

Action Comics: You know I don't know what to make of this current storyline... except that.. hey look it's the Veteran. I thought Batman said he didn't exist? Oh wait I forgot Batman did eventually acknowledge him(he's known him for awhile) and actually spoke to him during that Robin storyline... Best part of this book? Two throwaway lines. <Collector kneels at while still towering over the Statue of Liberty> "Hmm Perhaps as a Pencil Sharpener?...  <Later in the book he's looking at the Eiffel Tower> "MM Pencil/Pen Set?" :lol
:lol :lol

Black Panther: Some snappy dialogue here, I love the shot Panther takes at Doom. "Light Armor? Neat trick, I built one just like it at fifteen." "I designed this when I was twelve."  :lol Anyway not much happens here except for a bit of male chest flexing at the end... the beginnings of real trouble in paradise, or nothing at all? Hmmm. Some of what Doom says makes real good sense though.

Cable/Deadpool: So this one takes place after Thor kicks ass in the next issue of Civil War.. and Thor apparently kills someone WTF? Fun issue, I love the 4th wall breaks in this issue... the line about increase sales had my laughing, and all throughout this issue I was chuckling, but really... Cable vs. Deadpool next issue? That should last all of 1 page.

Teen Titans: God I'm really not feeling this storyline, although I would be interested in seeing Cassie/Tim have a real relationship regardless of how it got started. Cassie doesn't seem to completely agree that the kiss was wrong. So oh goodie we've got Titans East, a traitor is one of the past members of Teen Titans and well I could care less about Kid Devil and Ravager... Zzzzz and I think this storyline runs a good 4-5 issues... <Sigh> I've read a bit about who some of the members of Titans East are and who founded them... can't we just jump to that confrontation now? Seems like it's gonna be a good one.

Trials of Shazam: I'm not a Shazam reader, actually check that I tend to avoid all DC magic related books, but this mini-series something about the writeups appealed to me... first issue is a nice mix of some light humor with a bit of butt kicking... ok I'll hang around for a bit to see what happens.

X-Factor: Holy sh*t about Guido... certainly didn't see that coming... and the Multiple Man stuff... hilarious. Jamie needs some therapy... really. I can't say I've been highly curious as to what the connection between Jamie and Singularity was... but since we're in the "disclose all" storyline, hopefully it'll be interesting.

X-Men: Am I the only one who had trouble following a few of the panels in this issue? Anyway another group of.. somethings shows up outta no where and via proxy takes apart the X-men easily.... Christ I've read comics for over 20 years now... that is REALLY getting old. You know I'd completely forgotten Cable was part of the new team of characters on this book til he shows up near the end... COMPLETELY forgot. Oh yeah and his costume doesn't look much like is Cable/Deadpool uniform... the first thing I thought when they announced he was coming on board was, where the hell does his affiliation with the team fit in with what's going on in his own book? Continuity FTL. No matter I've been a Cable fan ever since his New Mutants debut...where he goes.. I follow. Since Creed says they aren't mutants.. I wonder if they are like Vargas(see Xtreme X-men, killer of Psylocke)?

Young Avengers/Runaways: Fun issue, I loved the "wait, you guys have a future murderous despot on your team too?" line. Not much happens except that the fight eventually ends between the teams but a new one brews up at the end. I'm in.

Holy shit, A.S.S. almost made me bust a gut laughing. "And then the inimitable Lex Luthor opened up the floor and shook hands with a baboon in a Superman suit"...  :lol :lol :lol
