yeah, i really liked 2001, but it *is* a bit masturbatory. most of the criticisms leveled at it are fair -- it's a deep, thoughtful film, but it's tedious even by the standards of those who usually enjoy this stuff. blade runner is a great visualization of a commercial dystopian future -- it really still hasn't been equalled, although robocop, in its satire, seems more plausible -- and it has that awesome, awesome vangelis soundtrack. on the other hand, neither ford nor young turned in particularly worthy performances. rutger hauer was fuck awesome as roy baty, though. as far as pdk adaptations, it's better than minority report!
unforgiven's a hard movie to criticize, save that eastwood's rather by-the-numbers when directing the camera -- the last shot of the movie is probably the most memorable. unforgiven is still the best he's done in that capacity, though.
that said, i picked foc. pd may have really ill-considered opinions half of the time, but at least he's trying to like good movies. foc worships crap. any would-be director that cites the star wars movies as inspirations never learned a single thing in film school, and should be forced to do craft table service until they die of blunt trauma at the hands of lily tomlin.
