THE NEW DOCTOR WHO IS ONLINE NOW distinguished black fellows
« on: April 14, 2007, 09:30:34 PM »
The Doctor returns to New Earth int he distant future with his new companion Martha Jones.  THe Face of Boe is there for his third (and final?) appearance.  Will he divulge the big secret he mentioned in last season's episode New Earth?  Judging by the preview we have something of a moody, scifi urban horror tale on our hands.

I have my thoughts. . .
spoiler (click to show/hide)
the secret ties in to the rumored other Time Lord that may or may not be the Doctor's brother, possibly played by Life on Mars's John Simm.

Don't forget that he is a disgusting melty creature.  I have seen the pictures with the bottles filled with urine and the used condoms and panties on the Playstation 2.  Even if you cut off the lard with a surgical grade chainsaw, there's no way to tame that foul, unlovable beast.

What did you think of last week's episode?

All the Shakespeare lines were corny as hell, but I laughed when Queen Elizabeth turned up again :)

I liked it a lot.  I thought the plot was kind of meh, but just about everything else was great.  All the quotes were pretty corny, but I'd kind of be disappointed if they weren't there.  And the Sycorax reference made me lol.

I'm hoping we get to learn a bit more about Martha in the new episode.  I like her so far, but so far her defining trait is that she isn't as dumb as Rose was.

So we've had two fun episodes this season, and it looks like this one is going to be more on the "serious" side of things, judging by Boe and the preview.  I think that kind of means they have to give Marsha something to work with eather than have her just be a bystander.

Yes, Daleks in Manhattan is the first part of a 2 episode story.  They actually filmed on location in New York.

I haven't watched the new ep yet (finishing an ep of Futurama).  How was it?

Its well done not to spoil anything but the rumors are going the right way. Its a depressing story but a overall happy ending. Martha put her foot down to the doctor. And he finally start to treat her with more respect. Its also full of great little scenes that are just funny. Production values went up at least from the last time we saw lots of 3d (looks like they got a different house doing the graphics now).

Overall its the best episode so far with martha.

When I am watching something on the computer I tend to pause a lot and rewind, so it usually takes more time than the running length of the show for me to actually watch it.

I liked this episode.  It probably is the best of the new season, but one thing irked me:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Doctor was quick to write off Boe's claim that the Doctor was not the last of the Time Lords.  I mean, the Doctor saw how the Daleks survived the Time War by using Void Ships. . .why would he so quickly write off the possibility that some Time Lords could've pulled off a similar trick?  Also, he seems to have a deep reverance for Boe, but he put the secret aside without much thought.

They really need to divulge details on how the Time War actually ended.  It's dressed up in vagaries and used as a plot device, and it's worn out its welcome being.  They need to reveal the explicit details on how the Time War ended, how the Doctor caused the Time Lords and Daleks to die, how Gallifrey was destroyed, and how the TARDIS was changed so that it can operate without the Eye of Harmony.
