I created an awesome dish tonight
« on: April 17, 2007, 03:30:09 AM »
I was bored and hungry so I decided to finally cook up something I've been dying to try. I have this amazing European smoked sausage, so I threw it in the oven. While it was cooking I cut up some potatoes (into cubes) and put them in a frying pan with some olive oil; normally I use I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, but since I had meat in the oven I decided to cut down on any excess sodium.

I had the potatoes on a rather low heat for abour 20 minutes. By that time I could see them browning lightly a tad. At that point I got out another pan, added more olive oil, and then put my veggies in: yellow and red bell peppers along with mushrooms. After a few minutes of frying I put some crushed croutons in. I let them cook into the veggies and added a few spices as well. Finally my sausage was done, so I took it out the oven  and cut it up into smaller pieces. After that I mixed my veggies and sausage in with the potatoes (nice and brown now), and flipped everything around to mix.

I also had some frozen veggies done on the side, with some butter mmm. Everything was awesome, although I used a bit too much olive oil.

Potatoes are healthy and CHEAP. I picked up a sack at a small grocery store for around $3. Same with the bell peppers: I only bought three so in all it came to around $2-3.50.

Yea, that's why I don't eat them as much as I want to. But they're definitely the coolest way to make a meal bigger. Got some veggies and chicken? Throw some Ps in that bitch!

actually if you want to make a meal "bigger" start putting beans into your diet. beans are full of fiber and fill you up really well.

mmmmm sounds delicious. Beans and rice make their own protein when combined. No real need for meat except for the deliciousness that it provides.

I love how making a plate of food that requires the skill of a under-paid fry cook warrants a thread.

Well he's a kid still. Kids grow n stuff. Once he hits 'the age' his metabolism will shut down then we'll get threads about how he wishes he could learn to cook something other than fried things then G will tell him about the 5-course meal his hot neighbor cooked for him at 2am and I'll sorta roll my eyes and say G youre a liar then he'll go you should drink gentleman jack.
