Seriously. Planet Terror is great, it's got great characters, decent action a keen sense of wit and plenty of wink-wink-nudge-nudge Grindhouse bullshit so that you remember, "LOL ITS MADE TO BE BAD". It's the movie that you'd make if you were a millionaire 14 year old.
Deathproof is a great chance to watch one of film's most idiosyncratic directors shed the veil of "art" and the pressure of the sophomore slump to make the kind of goofy movie he always wanted to. It didn't need the fake-out shitty film stock or the B-List acting to carry the weight. It was a genuinely bad-good film that prized execution over technique.
I was more than happy to see Planet Terror end, but it was Deathproof that I wanted another 30 minutes of.
ALSO: The people behind me were grade A pissed that the theater lost TWO reels of the film. LOLZOR.
