So there's this gay janitor at my school. He cleans up the building where the computer lab is, so I wind up seeing him a lot each semester. I've noticed that many of the kids from the highschool program at the college treat him like shit. They'll throw stuff on the ground, or laugh when he says something (he has that high "gay" voice). People will be like "super thanks for asking!" whenever he walks by, and it's obvious it bothers him.
I took it upon myself a few semesters ago to go out of my way to be nice to him. So whenever I see him I'll say hi and smile. Basic friendly behavior, which is strange because I never smile at stranger when I walk by lol. So now we make small talk everynow and then. Like I'll say "keep up the good job dude" and he'll be like "you know I will honey."

Apparently other people, including some of my friends, seem to think this is utter gay behavior or whatever. I'm just trying to be nice and act like I have some balls. People who make fun of others don't have balls, they're punks.
I've noticed a very homophobic attitute among the youth here, which is interesting. Younger people are usually more liberal and more accepting of gays than other age groups (due in part to media influence). Obviously this is ancedotal evidence, so I'm not trying to make any huge generalizations. Anyone else notice this? And I'm not just talking about teens; 16-25. College age people basically.
