argh - quick question about Taxes...
« on: April 18, 2007, 04:10:23 AM »
This is the first year I've had to file my own taxes.

I did Federal Taxes just fine, but now I received an email talking about State taxes?

Do I have to file State as well??? I thought Federal covered everything.

You're kidding me?

Yes, of course, you have to do state taxes!  And you just missed the deadline.  You better file an extension.

Okay, here is what you're going to have to do:

1. Go here!
2. Download this form and fill it out!
3. Send it in immediately, as you are already pass the deadline!

You may have to call the Georgia Department of Revenue to get the exact P.O. number for that application to be sent to.

I'm not big on doing crap online.  They forget a lot of credits and people will charge you.  That's why I did CrystalGemini and rodi's taxes this year. :lol

What a pain... if I just send in the taxes now, how much of a penalty do I get for being late?

I don't know, I've always done my taxes way, way early.  I assume you'll just get a few months in jail or deported.

Deported to the land of the stupid procrastinators.

hmm

Late payment penalty will be assessed at a rate of 1/2 of 1% per month if tax due on the return is not paid by the date
prescribed by law. Late payment penalty accrues regardless of an approved extension request. Individuals and fiduciaries
should remit payment due on Form IT-560. Corporations should remit payment on Form IT-560C.
NOTE: Remitting payment with Form IT-560 or IT-560C will not extend the due date for filing your return.
For filing a Net Worth Tax Return after the date prescribed by law, there shall be assessed a penalty amounting to
10% of the tax shown to be due. For failure to pay tax within the time prescribed by law, there shall be due an
additional penalty amounting to 10% of the tax shown to be due.

Hey that doesn't sound too bad - if I'm reading that right. A .5% penalty. Fuck it, I'm filing without an extension. EAT IT GEORGIA :punch YOU CAN TAKE MY 5 DOLLAHS! FIX THE POTHOLE NEAR MY HOUSE!

Those who do not pay the full amount due on or before April 17, 2007 will be charged interest on the unpaid balance and a late payment penalty. Those who do not file for an extension, or file late are also charged a substantial late filing penalty.

    * Interest will be assessed at a rate of 12 percent per year from April 17, 2007 until the date of payment. Interest accrues regardless of an approved extension request.
    * An additional late payment penalty will be assessed at a rate of 1/2 of 1 percent per month on the total tax due if not paid by April 17, 2007.
    * If a return is filed late without an approved extension, a late filing penalty will be charged at a rate of 5% per month on the total tax due as shown on the return.

Ugh. I don't even have a good reason though, so my extension would be rejected.

Just say that the person who handles your taxes died and send a cute picture of yourself.

And pray it's a dude that approves the extensions.

Or a lesbian.
