You know why HD DVD sales are balls? Because you fucking entertainment clowns need to goddamn pick one. "Oh, yeah, hey, lemme plunk down a couple hundred bucks for a player and 10 extra bucks a DVD for a pile of goods that could GO BAD in 2 years". Make up your minds, TV nerds. Help America.

HD Movies look wonderful and I wouldn't mind buying into a PS3 and buying BD movies from then on. But I agree with the sentiment that its not that large of an upgrade to take DVDs place.

I think better TVs are even more important than a definitive HD format. LCDs' picture is still kinda crappy. Plamas look good but they reflect too much even in a moderately lit room. CRTS still have great picture but they are small and have the most glare. I want a TV with minimal glare, fast motion response, and ability to make both SD and HD games look good.

I think the biggest knock against BluRay and HD DVD is that there are a lot of really good standard dvd transfers out there (ie love em or hate em, the Matrix movies) that really make you wonder why you need BluRay and HDDVD, especially if your HDTV wont even do 1080p because OMG the price of a GOOD BRAND 1080p set is still pretty staggering.

Only the AV snobs will sneer at the picture of a standard dvd with a fantastic transfer that looks ace upscaled. The added space for extras honestly means jack shit to me, and the chapter selection on the fly crap isn't enough reason to care either.

I watch most of my shows in HD and I can still be impressed by a dvd transfer. Also DVD didn't take over VHS due it haivng better visual quality. It was a mix of many things.
