So about this time last year she lost her job and just got a new one a month ago that won't be enough to pay the bills. She is in a bit of panic.

So now that I'm 18 she's forcing me to pay for absolutely everything. I'm not talking about the usual things like cloths or car, thats fine I should be paying for that - I'm talking about batteries, bottled water. Now I'm still in fucking high school and haven't worked in 2 months. She's also trying to push me into a job where I would be gone for the summer and the other day she asked to borrow $500.

At the same time - she does absolutely nothing on her end to save money and still maintain this attitude like "poor me, I give all the I can to my only son".

Its the way she brings it up to like this morning

Me "while your out can you pick up AA's for my electric tooth brush"
Her agitated "Your paying for it, right?"

It's pissing me off.

I'm trying to save up for a bike so I can actually go to other jobs and every time I turn around she's hitting me with another charge.

Well just to put things into perspective:

A.) You WILL have the option to move out at 18. It'll be rough but if this bugs you it'll be worth it.

B.) Multiply those 1000 little things she asks you for by at least 1000 and you'll have what she has probably spent on you in her lifetime.

Sure your mom might be asking for more than other moms. But you know back in the day a kid would have a job at like 12. Wtf right? Im just saying be the grown up here and keep that upper lip stiff until you have a chance to move out.

The 500 dollar loan is a little silly but she asked, she didnt demand. You said no I assume. No harm done.

Its just for years she went on about how it's ok that she didn't put into a uni fund because she was going to offer me a room and board all though uni. ...sigh. What bugs me here is how much of a hypocrites she is.

What scares me to what if she gets really desperate for money, will she start making me pay rent, something she promised not to do. and if thats so it would be no better than being out on my own now.

Its she's not helping at all, when I'm struggling though school and trying to save up so I can go to school so I don't turn out like her.

And everytime I hit at being unhappy about this she brings up how she was independent when she was 17 - well look where it got her now

I do have a job; its just I haven't been able to work for it in 2 months because were doing contracts in another city and I can't go because I have school. I have to wait till the contracts come back here which I'm hoping will be soon.

my parents didn't save for my college. my parents made me pay rent for the summers i was home. life sucks sometimes. the world owes you little more than a kick in the balls.

as for your mom, life doesn't turn out as nicely as we all plan. she probably woulda loved to help you out, but living costs money, and even the best laid plans often don't turn out so well.

YOU decided to give her the loan, it is not her fault for asking if youre angry, its your fault for giving. You could have said no. If you can make things a little easier for her with BOTTLED WATER or AA BATTERIES so be it. Worst case you have to move out, but thats ultimately your choice.

Also, don't listen to G, everything he says is fiction.

Get another job. Canada has a good economy right? There are many part time gigs you can get at this time.

Remember she has no obligation to take care of you now - you're 18 and an adult.

She maintains a cabin that coasts about 7000 a year to maintain. She has monthly theater tickets. Its not like she lives in rags.

really I understand that people have less than me and I plan to work my way though school and to move out in a year. It's the absolute lack of help, when she was support to be some one that would help me. The money bugs me but its not the main problem I mean if worst comes to worse I get done with highschool in 2 months, get the jobs i was planning to, and sell my games if i really need money.

its not the money, I've been paying for 1/3 of the cable and internet for 2 years and am paying off my own laptop (slowly).

and it's not about batteries and bottles water, its that for years she said she would help me, now the time has come and in the last 2 months she has totally went back on everything she has said. Its that at 18 I don't have a parent for a support and it's come as a bit of a shock. Because she's basically saying that besides food and shelter I'm on my own.

So paying partially for luxury items that you probably use more than her is a crime? Are you kidding? When I wanted broadband, I had to fork over the entire initial payments, because my mom was content with dial-up.

You're paying off your own laptop? Woe! I never got any assistance on any PC purchases, even school-related, or anything. My mother was enraged when I got a freelance writing gig at 16-years-old, because my paychecks were inconsistent. When I was 17-years-old, I already started buying me own clothes, food, personal purchases and college tuition.

You're 18-years-old! Start acting like it! If you think paying for food, shelter, utilities and all the bills and responsibilities that comes with living, I simply cannot wait for you to move out of the house. Most have a difficult enough time doing it for one person (themselves!), but you add the burden of a teenage parasite!

If my parents said I could live in their house rent free and not pay for food, but I had to pay for personal purchases, luxury items and fucking BATTERIES - I'd do it in a heartbeat!

I think most young people that have not lived on their own grossly underestimate how much it costs to feed a person. That's the cost that all kids overlook when first moving, myself included. You're like, "It can't be that much - burgers are just 99 cents at McDonald's! So food is cheap! Heck, my parents buy food all the time!"

That's not including the other costs that add up, like toiletries, paper napkins/towels, laundry, etc. Utilities, especially in California, are horrendously expensive. I pay more in fees and taxes on utilities than I do for actual energy charges.

So yeah, a parent who gives a kid a free place to sleep and eat is probably the best gift a parent could give for someone who will be going to college.

I think the most immature comment made by an 18-year-old kid goes to my brother, though. He worked during the entire summer because he wanted a car, which my mother financed for him and got insurance for (he has to pay it off). When he learned he would have to work during the school year because of the insurance costs and to prepare for the impending tuition costs, he said, "WHAT? I JUST WORKED THREE STRAIGHT MONTHS! I WANT TO TAKE A BREAK!"

I should call my landlord and be like, "Dude, I know you like money - but I really need a break right now. I worked for like three or four months. That's straight. Not even vacation time, man. I'm practically a slave!"

My prom was at a pretty nice country club. I had some sort of teenager lol fallout with the girl that was my date and in bitchy protest I went upstairs to this lounge area and watched Monstervision on TNT all night. I wrangled some of my friends into it, too.

Then we went out and got fucked up in some dude's strange house. You know how some people collect the weirdest shit? Someone in his family collected keys. Not just neat looking skeleton keys, but random house and luggage keys. . .you know, keys that aren't that special. There was a room in his house dedicated to keys. They covered the walls, inch by inch. There was no space on the walls that did not have a key fastened to it. The room was on the top story of a house, so the roof did that slanty sloping thing where the ceiling was, and even that area, probably near ten feet up, was COVERED in keys. I ended up stealing some of them.
