Drinky Crow Gaming Grab Bag
« on: August 31, 2006, 01:18:55 AM »
Picked up some games today, feggits. The local Gamecrazy gave the Fuckwit Twins -- Buck Toof and Red McFats -- the ol' heave ho, and the new chick running the place seems cool. Hence, the store is once again receiving Drinky Crow Dollars, as all approved retail establishments do when they fire their distinguished mentally-challenged jagoff teenaged employees.

I picked up: Ultimate Ghouls N Ghosts ToastyFrog is a Homosexual Edition, Disgaea 2: Loli Rape Memories, and Saints Row.

UGnG rocks hardcore. It ain't perfect -- the item collection parts are just really distracting from what is a laser-focused game series, the 30 fps hurts the sense of precision a tad, and there's a lot more crap attacking you -- but it's pretty damn ace as far as old-school platformers go. The level design and controls are largely peerless, and Levels 2 and 3 are some of the best layouts I've seen in a game of this type. On a scale from PhoenixDark to Mandark, I give this game a Mike Works. DAGGERS 4 LIFE.

Disgaea 2 is more of the same. Literally more of the same. The art's higher resolution and the sprites are bigger, but there's a lot less classes and there's only about 3/4s of the content of the original. That's a bit disappointing. On the other hand, you can now become a Dark Senator and take bribes yourself, and you can subpoena your troops and turn them into felons, which rocks. On the other other hand, the loli quotient has been INCREASED. Yuck. On a scale from The Black Stallion to cloudwalking, I give this game a Willco.

Saints Row. I actually didn't buy it. I'm not thug enough! On a scale from ZomBz to TVC-15, I give this game an am nintenho!

Disgaea 1 is a better game than 2, at this juncture. GnG GBA is still the best GnG, easily, although UGnG is a nice installment. Daxter has set my bar high for PSP games.

Okay, you're  comparing political posters and settling for a passive guy?  average person's good and bad posters and settling for a square?  why does a game compare to me if you haven't bought it?  It's looking like a really good game.  Do I just outline the culture distinguished mentally-challenged fellow in you?  I'm rated M.

It looks fun.  It insults society.  I don't think it's that bad since it might possibly be a satire of a certain world.  has online too little gaming dojo.

You should try picking up Conker for the XBox. That might be fun to play.

I dunno, I figure if you've played one 'run around and hit people with a bat' sandbox games you've played em all.

I think GTA set the bar a little too high when I was able to run over the hookers I just had sex with to get my money back.

I got Oblivion in the mail

Boring fucking game. Selling it.

I rented Prey and Tomb Raider.

Prey is boring as fuck, but it's better than Doom 3. The lead character is at least talkative.

Haven't touched Tomb Raider yet.

Saints Row reminds of those comical pimp costumes with the oversized sunglasses advertised in every Party City ad around Halloween.

Oblivion is only as boring as the person playing it.

Oblivion is horrible...Xbox fans hype up shit to the degree where they do so just so they have a game.  I remember the hype for shit Splinter Cell, and Fable.

Seriously Xbox fans make fun of Nintendo fans for that shit?  They are just as guilty for hyping up pure shit.

What the fuck ever, dude.  Yeah, you personally didn't like it, therefore it must be all hype.  It's a great game, and I fucking despised Morrowind and usually hate goblin/elf/troll/whatever fantasy rpgs.  It's a great game on 360, PC, and when/if it comes to PS3 the fanatical Sony dickbags currently slagging it will be sucking Orc cock and squealing about how great it tastes.

Oblivion isn't bad and it looks really nice, BUT the leveling system is seriously busted -- having enemies and loot scale with you is THE MOST distinguished mentally-challenged DESIGN DECISION IN THE HISTORY OF GAMING. The PC version has a mod that removes it, but the game just ain't as fun unless you're playing it on the big screen and getting that satisfying controller rumble when you whack some ugly-ass polygon dude in the head with your hammer.

Oblivion rocks until you realize there's really no point in playing it--largely due to the leveling system, but also due to the fact that there's little drawing you in to care about resolving any of the quests, including the main questline.

I played Morrowind, A LOT of Morrowind, I mean like hundreds of hours.

What about Oblivion is compelling enough to do that again?

Microtransaction horses?
Purty Graphix?
Busted scaling difficulty?

the game is also extremely boring, the story is inexistent, none of the NPCs have anything to say,the combat is lame and extremely poor, it moves molasse slow, it's a nice virtual world but it's too gigantic for its own good, it has thousands of worthless items, and it also has a shaky framerate

I can't even force myself to play the game for the achievements.

I'll give it a couple more tries before writing it off completely, I will start back over and make a new character.

Just Cause 360 demo - 50%

I like the cartoonish action movie violence, and the soundtrack kicks ass, but the animations and driving are janky.  It is a "bargain" 360 game at $50 retail, though, and I do have some Best Buy bucks to blow, so...maybe.

Oblivion was good and had a really good story especially considering how well it fit into the world.  And I just kept lowering the difficulty until where I am now where nothing can hurt me except maybe ten guys at once because I wouldn't be able to get a hit.

That's not a balanced game though; once you get into your 20s, what's the point in continuing when it's literally just more of the same?  Or at least that's the problem I had.  Enjoyed the time I spent playing it, but once I paused play for a week (for work/etc reasons) I didn't feel any need to pick it up again.

I just have the Fighters guild left and then I have all the achievements.  I'm about level 30.
